I would have paid out of pocket for that hip replacement, just because she’s my grandmother.

I'd lay odds you and I will NOT have the option to go outside the system.

The government system will have to force everyone to play by their rules without a parallel out of pocket system. Otherwise, they will not be able to force Physicians to work by their rules and pay scales.

Exactly right. The feds have to figure out how to get the care out of the doctors, hospitals, and pharmas without paying for it. Only way to do that is to take over the market, and make all other care outside that market illegal.

The interesting part, and really the only part they are having a tough time with, is how do they tell the trial lawyers they’re services are no longer necessary? If the government is the only supplier, then you can’t really sue them.

Also, since they are the only supplier of health care, the industry that supplies gauze, syringes, tape, scalpels, crutches, etc is going to shrink too. Perhaps to the point where a survivor per supply left.

Exactly. As they already do in Canada. Also, it is “unfair” if someone can pay for the better treatment. Which is what they use as an excuse.
