POLL: Should U.S. Sen. Mark Begich resign his seat so a special election can be held?
scroll down to the bottom of the page and vote yes.
http://www.juneauempire.com/
As I understand it, the citizens of Alaska will have the chance to vote Begich out of office in November of 2014.
Content to wait are ye?
You have a better chance of Kim Jong Il stepping down and holding free elections.
Democrats never just surrender power.
No, simply content to abide by the Constitution.
Riiiiiiight. You’d be hard-pressed to find any politician who would do this.
He should resign now. His win was predicated on fraud by the Justice Department. So should Jon Tester in Montana who also won by similar chicanery.
So a special election being held to give the Alaskan people an opportunity to vote on their Senator when the true facts are known rather then under the veil of possibly criminally concocted prosecutions is unconstitutional? Is that what you’re saying?
If there was fraud at the previous Justice Department, the current Justice Department should indict the Associate A’s.G and the previous Attorney General.

No, I am saying the Constitution specifies that a Senator will serve a six year term.
And if the prosecution against Stevens was illegal, then you should advocate that all the Justice officials involved in the prosecution be indicted.
You don’t know much about the Justice department, do you ? Biggest mistake the government ever made was getting rid of patronage and keeping people loyal to a given administration not looking to undermine it. Civil service all but guarantees legions of left-wingers infesting Republican administrations, and they’re up to their eyeballs in every single department. Tester and Begich won by fraud, and they should step aside and have a new election run in each with the FACTS being known that the prior incumbents were not guilty of the trumped-up charges and specifications levelled at them. This is a systematic attempt by the left to run Republicans out of office. All they have to do is pick out a target and set them up. And Conrad Burns and Stevens weren’t the only targets, either.
That seemed to be enough to cause Stevens to concede.
In any case, the GOP does not need Ted Stevens back in the Senate.
we can’t even get a re-vote in Minnesota. Why should there be one in Alaska?
Look, most of us aren’t fans of Stevens. I think he’s an arrogant jerk who overstayed his welcome by a few decades. That doesn’t change the fact that he was deliberately set up.
The Attorney General has oversight of all high profile prosecutions.
Sorry, didn’t realize you were a constitutional expert.
I’m missing the part in the Constitution where it says Republicans set up by left-wing civil service employees and run from office on the myth of corruption should sit back and take it. Maybe he can point that out to us ?
That’s too long. Let’s give him the boot now.
Did Mukasey prosecute it personally ?
Stevens conceded and Begich was sworn into office. There does not seem to be a constitutional provision for a Do-Over.
No, but he has oversight of his department and signs off on high profile prosecutions.
Better question. Why are you defending this corruption ?
begich only won by 3000 votes
I am not defending corruption and have in fact advocated the prosecution of all Justice officials involved in the Stevens’ prosecution.
Yes, America needs a Do-Over for the 2008 Presidential Election and the GOP needs a Do-Over of the 2008 primaries.
However, those things are not going to happen since there is no “Do-Over” clause in the Constitution.
That’s fine. Why do you oppose urging those Democrats who won elections BASED upon fraudulent prosecutions and allegations of corruption towards Republican incumbents from stepping down so a new election can be called and a fair election can be run ?
Alas, that is really the only remedy.
First, there is no provision in law for a Do-Over election.
Second, if such a precedent were enacted, we would have a future of every close or clouded election going to a do over.
No, it’s not. The Democrats have known for decades that battles are won on perception. A special election may never and likely will never happen but the stink you cause can so assure you a victory in the next election that the fight is worth it.
Never discount the methods of the opposition just because you abhor their beliefs.
Then by your definition, fraud is A-OK here (well, as long as some culprit is “prosecuted” (ha) long after the theft has occurred and the goal has been reached). These two elections were the difference between a trillion dollar bailout being foisted on the American public and it being stopped. I call that a coup d’etat. What do you call it ?
(Oh, and for Congressional offices, there is a provision, it’s called a special election. So, yes, a “do-over” can occur here - and should).
We’re doing several things that are not in the Constitution. Libtards care nothing for the document so we need to fight back any way we can. Iraqi elections are more free and fair than ours.
I say screw em! We need a special election and give Begich the boot, then replace Stevens next time around.

“So, yes, a do-over can occur here - and should).”
I agree. We should do it next week and blindside ACORN.
Now in Minnesota, given all of the shenanigans - maybe i can be persuaded!
I call it a failure by the AK GOP for once again nominating the Senior Senator and a error by Stevens by pushing for a trial prior to the election.
That’s the state party’s failure (but we did not put up a first-tier challenger to Stevens) and we also tried to dislodge Don Young as well, but a 2nd challenger ran interference for Young and he was renominated by a hair. But Young was not indicted on false charges for the general, and again, it doesn’t change the fact this election was stolen by fraud by the “Justice” Department itself on behalf of the Democrats. Coup d’etat.
Yes, Ted got a raw deal from the DOJ but I am not buying the claim that The AG led a coup.
begich’s seat will be forever tainted
Begich will be forever tainted
Never said the AG led a coup (though not to say he didn’t). I know very little about Mukasey other than he clearly had little control over his department and was barely on the job a year, scarcely enough time to familiarize yourself with the mechanations. But several of Dubya’s cabinet secretaries, especially in his 2nd term, were incompetent. But still, this occurred on Mukasey’s watch. Either he knew this was a fishing expedition or people in the department were lying to him (the latter is certainly likely, but it could’ve also occurred in tandem with the former).
But calling it a raw deal is ridiculous. This was a deliberate criminal conspiracy (or worse, a consensus) by leftist agents within the Justice Department. Ditto with the set-ups of Burns and with ex-Congressman Curt Weldon.
However, I am sure Mukasey was competent enough to follow-up when the memo entitled "Hey Boss, I am about to indict a sitting United States Senator" rolled across his desk.
“We should do it next week and blindside ACORN.”
lol
Apparently he wasn’t.

Yes, we can do it or at least raise hell! Please help us get the word out!
