The New York Congressional District #20 election to replace Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand took place today. The numbers are astounding!
Tonight, with all 610 precincts reporting, Democrat Scott Murphy leads Republican Jim Tedisco by 65 votes -- out of more than 154,000 votes! The numbers are: Murphy 77,344, Tedisco 77,279. It's not over because there are more than 6,000 absentee ballots remaining to be counted. Those ballots have reportedly be impounded under court order, and will not be counted until after a court conference schedule for next Monday. So, no winner to be decided for now.
I'm not really up on New York politics, but I would say it is positive that a Republican did this well in an election to replace a Democrat, even though Gillibrand was known to be more conservative than most Democrats.
I think I’ve seen this movie....
Looks like the dems win.
For the republicans to win, it has to be beyond the margin of fraud and litigation...
Need votes? Call ACORN.
Need votes? Call ACORN.
You beat me to it.
I’m certainly not saying it doesn’t happen, but I’ve never seen evidence of significant voter (or counter) fraud in NY.
New York City or state? Are you serious? Anymore I think every state is crooked.
There's not an ACORN's chance in hell that the Repub's will win this nail biter. The demoHacks learned their lesson in Fla; NEVER stop counting the ballots. Ever.
This is not good. Although the election was to replace a Democrat, it’s one of the most Republican districts in the state and the only reason Gillibrand won in the first place in 2006 was Sweeney’s numberous controversies combined with a very bad year for Republicans in the Northeast.
Our government’s terrible and clearly corrupt (or at least ethically challenged), but I haven’t seen that extend to election issues. I’m not sure about NYC though.
There are 10,000 absentee ballots to count.
I think the military has until April 13 to hand in their ballots. I hope they are all counted, because our military is fighting for our right to vote.
Can we even be sure Tedisco wins the military vote by that large of a margin? After all, last year the gleeful media kept pushing the stories on us about how more and more service people were voting for Obama.
Part of the problem is the statehouse leadership in NY - Democrat and Republican - is for the most part composed of political hacks and spoilsmen.
Tedisco felt he was entitled to make the race, the party agreed, and he ended up running against a telegenic young Democrat with no record to defend while Tedisco - who could not decide until the last week of the campaign whether he was against the stimulus package or for it - ended up looking like an unprincipled weasel, which was probably not an entirely unfair comparison.
IMO Republicans are going to have to turn the page on an entire era in Albany if they want to run competitive candidates NY house districts.
Gillibrand did win twice though. But when Gillibrand was a congresswoman in this Republican district, she did what she had to do to win, but even then (2007) only received a 2% rating from The Club for Growth, an 8% rating from the American Conservative Union, 0% from National Right to Life Committee, etc..
Not to worry. Acorn will manage to find 500 plus votes in the trunk of another auto to skew the votes.
It’s a wonder that some Democrats can walk straight. Their values and ethical morals are like corkscrews.

What is Murphy’s stand on guns? Gillibrand was able to get some pro gun votes I guess because she did not march with the anti gun Dems. If Murphy’s views on this issue are much worse then it is a bad sign. Still overall though I would say as disappointing as this is, Murphy’s tiny victory can be seen as a plus after Gillibrand won by a huge margin just 5 months ago. And in a state where Obama is very popular.
Murphy said he is pro-2nd amendment, but like Gillibrand, will say what he has to say to win.
Yup — Dems win, hands down.
Unless the Republican wins by a landslide, the Dems can gin up wnough fraudulent votes to ensure a Leftists victory. AND, even if they didn’t, they would appeal to their balck-robed friends on the Federal Courts who would rule valid votes (such as military absentee ballots) “out of order,” while counting thrown out ballots (due to hanging chads or double votes) as valid and reentered into the count...
This is evidence that the United States hasn’t suffered enough yet. This is an invitation for us to suffer more. I just hate that we who don’t WANT this suffering are forced to live with the fools who are bringing it all down upon us...
