That is exactly what could happen under Acta, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. This agreement is currently being actively pursued among the G8 nations. The purpose of the Acta agreement is to prevent illegal downloading and ripped copyrighted movies. Big brother may soon be waiting when you get off the plane. Video is here.

How can they tell if a file is illegal? I have files from old CD’s. They surely don’t have RIAA tag on it.

Applies for movies too. Most of my ripped movies are portable copies of my vast purchased DVD collection. Ones that aren’t are copied from my DVR, commercials and all.
It’s called Fair Use and if this goes through yet another reason why I no longer fly commercial.
I’m looking for the internet police to come on strong soon, with a tax on every link.

Funny how the ACLU seems quite on the airport/TSA issue.
I heard its not just airports. They want to access your PC at any time.
Oh and it doesnt stop at searching. They can confiscate without cause and you have virtually no recourse.
Until you get through US customs, regardless if you are an American citizen, none of your rights under the 4th amendment apply. Customs can go through your luggage and look at anything they want. Not sure how this new law changes anything. They always had the right to inspect anything they wanted, even your computer and Ipod. Regardless, I hardly think ICE is going to have the time or the inclination to go through someone’s laptop unless they have other information that leads them to believe you are stealing movies in great quantities.
The statists told me if I’m not doing anything wrong, I have nothing to worry about!
