I’ll pray for the author of this piece.
I think this is Obama’s reasoning ( as a lawyer ) :
If the abortion is OK, then letting the fetus expire is OK.
If letting the fetus expire is not OK, then the abortion simply shouldn’t take place.
In Obama’s mind he asks : Technically, is there any difference between that fetus in the womb and out, from one minute to the next? No. Not really.
So, if there’s no problem with the abortion (the real issue under discussion here),then there shouldn’t be a problem with letting the fetus expire outside the womb. If there’s a problem with the abortion in the first place, then stop the abortion. But don’t start drawing fine distinctions that have no real meaning if the abortion is allowed to proceed.
I have heard variations of the above reasoning from liberal circles but I believe the above is the gist of Obama’s argument.
