The leadership of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Monday came to the defense of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood after he was rebuked last week by White House spokesman Robert Gibbs over a comment about highway taxation.
Oberstar and Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., the senior Republican on the transportation committee, said that a mileage tax would be one of the options that Congress will consider as it puts together a new five-year surface transportation spending program.

He's acting like one. We don't need the GOP supporting this, let it be the democrats idea only.
I say tax congress critter travel only and make them pay for it from their own pockets. They are “public servents” after all, right?
Is there something in the water in Florida? I know there is elsewhere as well.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, will be putting an electronic device in my cars to monitor my whereabouts. That's a line I won't be crossing over.
Someone should keep track of one of these characters then report on their every move and see how they like it.
If they really wanted a mileage tax why not just read the odometer once a year, NY already does this during inspection although they don’t tax it yet. Why GPS if not for the control?
Time for Mica to retire.
