Screen Actors Guild (SAG) is headed for a strike

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has rejected the "final" offer by Hollywood producers and may be headed for a strike. SAG is another union that just doesn't get it. We are in a recession and all industries are starting to be affected. Hollywood is not immune to this. Fewer movies may be made this year. Paramount, Viacom and NBC Universal have announced cuts. SAG is holding out for a two year contract. Most unions have a three year contract and other guilds and unions in Hollywood have have accepted this offer. The Screen Actors Guild is holding out for a shorter term and more royalty money. SAG is one of the greediest unions in America and one of the reasons why movies often cost over $100 million to make. Does anyone really think actors in Hollywood are underpaid? SAG even overcharges their membership. They charge their members an initiation fee of $2,277 to join. Then, they get 1.85% of all individual earnings under SAG contracts between $1 and $200,000. The scale slides down for higher amounts. SAG needs to face the reality of current economic conditions, but that is unlikely. People who live and work in Hollywood are out of touch with the rest of America. Hollywood was key to Obama winning the presidency. Perhaps he will give his Hollywood supporters a bailout.

This hurts all the hard-working people behind the cameras, and the SAG members know it. What gratitude they show to those who make them look good.

This is excellent news that will, IMHO, result in fewer bad movies being created over the next few months.

Perhaps he will give his Hollywood supporters a bailout.

The recently passed budget/tax bill in California does exactly that.

Hollywood may reap an unexpected windfall from lawmakers in Sacramento trying to close a gaping budget deficit -- a tax credit of as much as 25% to woo filmmakers back to the Golden State.

Can’t Hussein do something about this???? This is tragedy waiting to happen. WE HAVE TO ACT RIGHT AWAY!!!!!
Surely a few hundred billion could solve the problem......
By the way, do a$$hole actors have to limit their yearly income to $500K or less?????

Are they striking because they make too much money and want salary caps? Didn't think so.

Replace all human actors/actresses with CGI. Problem solved.

“Replace all human actors/actresses with CGI. Problem solved.”

They don’t get arrested for DUI, shoplifting, assault, theft, and murder either.

Nor do they trash talk their country, or assist in its destruction through the glorification of principles deemed destructive over centuries of history.

CGI still looks fake. A better solution would be to simply hire no-name actors and actresses to fill the void. There's millions of people who'd love to be in the movies. Now is their chance.

They could go on permanent strike and I wouldn’t notice the difference.

In the film “Team America World Police” (by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone), the Screen Actors Guild is renamed the Film Actors Guild (run by “Alex Baldwin”), hence producing the acronym F.A.G., as in:

Alec Baldwin: By following the rules of the Film Actor’s Guild, the world can become a better place; that handles dangerous people with talk, and reasoning; that, is the fag way. One day you’ll all look at the world us actors created and say, “wow, good going, fag. You really made the world a better place, didntcha, fag?”

Now if we could just get Journalists to go on strike we would be on the right track.

Team America was the last movie I saw in a theater. I don’t buy DVDs or rent them. TCM is about the only source of movies for me these days.

I thought it was called the Film Actors Guild.

The unions do get it about striking and the depression. That is something everyone needs to understand. There are strikes throughout Europe and the US. There will be more as time goes. These are communist organizations which still dream of a communist rule over the world.
