Republicans Need To Retreat To Galt’s Gulch

The simple fact is the Democrats are going to pass whatever they want to pass. They have the votes. And when they are bring bills to the floor of Congress that are topping $1 trillion dollars, with $335,000,000 for the prevention of sexually transmitted disease, there is no logical reason for any Republican to vote for the bill.

But the Democrats, Obama included, want the Republicans to put aside politics and vote for what is best for the country.

Understand exactly what he wants. Obama wants limited government Republicans to put aside those values and vote for a bill that goes against everything they believe in. He wants them to be a part of this huge spending bill.

Why?

Because when it fails, and it will fail, he can look at Republicans, point his finger and say, "Well, it would have worked if those Republicans hadn't cut so much out of it." If he can get the Republicans to vote for it, he can put the blame on them, because the vote was bipartisan.

Allowing Democrats to Fail

fail-road3

There are time when my son wants to try something that I know is going to fail. He'll explain what he wants to do, I'll explain why it's going to fail, he'll insist on trying it anyway.

"Give it a shot," I'll say.

I'll allow the thing to fail. Then explain why it failed and how he can achieve what he is trying to do.

The Republicans should do that here. They should just shut up, change nothing but vote against everything, and when it fails, show how they allowed the Democrats to try their way.

It prevents any and all blame from being shifted to them.

Filibuster time in the Senate.

Make fun of obambi’s confusing preventing birth with preventing economic depression.

The difficulty with bipartisanship is that if it had been practiced for the last eight years we wouldn’t need to call for it now. The current demand is couched in terms of what’s best for the country but in fact it’s simply that having blamed Bush for everything up to and including solar eclipses for the last eight years the Dems now want to change the rules. “Bipartisanship” here means “share the blame,” which morphs very quickly into “assume the blame” once the MSM get through spinning the thing for the Dems’ advantage. The answer has to be a resounding NO. It might be otherwise in the presence of a relatively even-handed press but that went away quite some time ago. That’s what the country lost when the media decided to play power games. It won’t be back soon.

Rather than voting no, they should simply enter their comments in the official records, then vote “present”. Voting no still implies input and cooperation with the process. Vote “present” - you simply yield.

Yep...!

Bipartisanship is a lost option...via Democratic obscurity... Unfortunately, with the Republicans that are currently in office, that meaning does not apply. Their idea of bipartisanship is to cave when necessary (finger to wind) and protest when capable (again, finger to wind). We have the most political class in Congress that has ever existed and they will perform just as elected (they assume power - if the election was close, follow the majority). Unfortunately, the class of politician has deteriorated to the point of who cares who is elected...

I’m sorry, but today it seems that whether Democrat or Republican, the outcome is the same - get rich, screw the public, screw the country, get rich...

It should seem unusual that everyone that gets into national politics becomes rich - wake up folks...

Normally I would agree, but the congressional Republicans all voted against it, along with a handful of Blue Dog Democrats. The thing will pass, but maybe the Senate Republicans can see that their brothers in Congress got a lot of support from their people back home. We can always hope.

Actually, I agree with you - if I forget my pessimistic view of politics... I have to say that I am PROUD that the Republicans all voted against this awful bill...and thank you Blue Dogs...

That aside, I do not have a lot of confidence in government today. The actual statesmen are long gone. Anything GOOD that happens in Congress or the Senate today is a miracle.
