I bet he will suddenly announce that he will need to use "special" glasses whenever making public statements. HUD glasses. Of course their is versions much more compact than this for POTUS, this is what we can buy.

Absolutely idiotic. There is no requirement to use a Bible. Between this kind of thing and the ridiculous “dual citizenship” crap, too many Freepers are showing signs of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

The Constitution does not say a Bible should even be used.

You are correct.

A lot of people don't are about the Bible, either. They believe that modern man has moved beyond all that. But there is nothing new under the sun. Empires rise and empires fall.

When classical education was taught, people could see that men today have the same foibles as 5000 years ago. Now they can't see past their last text message.

They won't get it until they are once again huddled in the dark, using sticks and rocks for self-defense.

This issue is officially stupid.

The natural-born thing, isn’t stupid at all.

I agree with you that Roberts messed up - he is the “administratee” of the oath.
Obviously, BO did not do his homework.
imho, all of this?- not a good sign for our country- i’m not being superstitious and beyond a freudian slip

From Scotusblog:

"(UPDATE: Some readers have helpfully made two points: first, that Obama also signed a written copy of the constitutional oath after the public swearing-in, and, second, that the Constitution’s Twentieth Amendment can be interpreted to mean that the President actually takes office precisely at noon whether or not the oath has been given, and that the oath is necessary only because the President embarks on Executive duties. The blog appreciates these additions to public understanding of Tuesday’s situation.)"

Nope. Wrong conclusion Scotusblog from your readers.

Since no amendment modifies Article II, Section 1, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution. The presidential oath of office is still a requirement.

Clause 8: "Before he enter on the Executive of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation...."

So both the 20th amendment states what day he takes office AND the oath of office are requirements.

Lighten up. It’s funny. I’ve never heard you have to use the Bible to make it legal and doubt this but given the comedy of errors I could believe it. At least to the point of enjoying the comedy.

Exactly it is a comedy of errors. It is hilarious.

Does this mean that we’re going to picket the White House and chant “Get out of Biden’s house!”?

Saying the words to the oath correctly, giving the oath before 12:00PM, saying the oath over a Bible, and being a natural born citizen are trivial matters. For Zero, what the hell?

Without a Bible it looks like a high five rather than being sworn in.

Maybe the O-Man inadvertently brought in a copy of the Koran, and Roberts wisely nixed the idea.

Actually, Roberts saw these lying around and decided not to use either one.

There was a poll result put out by Rasmussen back in October I think it was regarding the Constitution and how the public thinks our Supreme Court Justices should rule on cases they hear. Over 70% of those questioned who supported Obama said that they justices should rule according to a “sense of fairness” rather than ruling according to the written Constitution. I can’t remember all the other breakdowns off-hand, but here is a link for more information — http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/pt_survey_toplines/november_2008/toplines_supreme_court_november_14_15_2008

Sadly, your daughter is right I fear. While many of our politicans and activists give lip service to obeying the Constitution in practice our politicians (on both sides of the aisle) have made a mockery out of it with the passing of a tremendous amount of Unconstitutional Laws - thereby paving the way for Obama’s Socialist/Communist “Change”.

*************
I’m curious about this 2nd screwup, though. How did they screw it up a SECOND time? This is beyond ridiculous. I think perhaps Justice Roberts’ conscience may be getting in the way of his ability to administer the oath correctly. He really should take this as a sign, IMHO. They need to do their jobs and actually HEAR the cases before them in the Supreme Court regarding Obama’s eligibility. I think the entire nation would be much better off KNOWING without a shadow of a doubt that Obama is truly qualified Constitutionally to hold this office.

On a brighter note — President Biden is doing a good job, no new laws to speak of really, seeing as he isn’t the one signing the orders! So legally nothing has been accomplished! It’s a great start so far, isn’t it for the Obama Administration?

A serious question though — what becomes of the things Obama has done so far? Does he need to sign his paperwork again after he does the oath correctly? Is there a “3-strike” rule in place regarding this oath taking (please, say yes! LOL) — like if he doesn’t get it the next time he gets sent home to Chicago?

It is so sad to see these things happening - even though I knew these days would come. I didn’t expect him to be so incredibly incompetent right away though!

Just for the sake of asking — is it spelled out in the Constitution that the President-Elect must swear his oath of office with his hand on a Bible? I know I could go look this up, and I probably will anyway, but I don’t remember seeing where it said that off-hand.
