Time to Set Aside Childish (and Racist) Prayers

Reverend Joseph Lowery gave an uplifting inauguration benediction that was marred by a racist snipe at white people:

Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around -- (laughter) -- when yellow will be mellow -- (laughter) -- when the red man can get ahead, man -- (laughter) -- and when white will embrace what is right.
So the "white" have not yet embraced "right"? This is racist and divisive, and worse, it was met with laughter and official embrace, not the opprobrium it deserved.

Reverend Lowery has been jailed, shot at, fire hosed and dog-bitten, among other things, all in the noble pursuit of civil rights (human rights!).

This great, brave man, basking in that glorious day on a dais of pomp and glory, with the whole world watching, crouched down and stuck chewing gum under the seat of American consciousness.

He obviously paid no heed to the new president's words:

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.
Beautiful words, but difficult to accomplish when citizens are aiming racist jibes at one another. No one should understand that better than Reverend Lowery, and the president who laughed at his words.

Time to set aside childish things. Yeah...

Lowrey set ‘the black cause’ back 40 years with that excuse-of-an-invocation. Bullet, meet foot.

I thought MLK’s dream was for a day when people would not be judged by the color of their skin, but rather by the content of their character.

Really. When was the last time anyone told a black person to sit on the back of a bus?

The only places I know that use the cops to eject people of color are places like Martha’s Vineyard and Beverly Hills.

Freaking liberal hypocrites. How many Mexicans walk around Ted Kennedy’s neighborhood at night?

That’s the problem. Obama has no character... just a few pigments.

Where is Lowery’s apology to white people? If this had been the other way around, Je$$e and $harpton would have been screaming on the airways for an apology. Yet this racist buffoon gets away with it, and our “President” just sits there and giggles.

Put the fool Reverend back in his box and let him out in another 50 years. What anacronistic tripe. He has done a disservice to all people, everywhere in America, with that invocation.

I asked the same thing to those gushing over the election of our first "black" president. I asked why his skin color mattered more than his policies. Most didn't even know what his history was, who his associations were, and what he is truly about. But boy they feel felt great about his skin color.

As Glenn Beck said today: You know, those Asians are always hopped up on something.

This was the stupidest benediction I could even think of and it doesn’t take much to offend me. Actually, I don’t get offended, that just ticked me off.

I always ask any Obama supporter what piece of legislation that he’s written has impressed you. All I receive in return is a blank stare and some mind-numbed drivel about “hope and change.”

Well, if you're black you are "entitled" to be as racist as you please toward whites. Racial equality only goes one way.

BTW He is NOT MY PRESIDENT.

Maybe not the bus but I have heard that Obama was told to sit in the back of the Presidential limo. Jesse Jackson will be staging a protest demonstration about that next Sunday.

Forget Jesse and Sharpton. If this had occured at a Republican Inauguration in regards to a snide, racist comment about blacks, the liberal news media would be like this today:

So, far, what Obama and the liberal news media have taught America is that white racism is "bitter swill" while black racism is cute and funny.

Between the Rev and the Poet, it’s as if Bart Simpson was the chairman of the Inauguration Committee.

That works, too. LOL. Can't tell you how many I know who voted for him thought he was more than qualified and then shot down Palin as not being qualified.

I asked them to tell me, exactly, what experience he had that Sarah lacked. I also asked them why they were comparing the Dem Pres candidate against the GOP VP candidate. Usually the same result. Some actually said: "Oh you must be a reeeepubbblicaaannn."

The fact that Palin was much more the draw than McCain tells you how doomed the GOP was this past election.

"We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. ..."

I don't care too much for what Rev. Lowery said but I put the blame for it being a part of the Inauguration on 0pod. This was his day. He arranged it. Then he put this on the official WH website on Day One...

Obama is still attacking Bush

President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.

(snip)

President Obama swiftly responded to Hurricane Katrina. Citing the Bush Administration's "unconscionable ineptitude" in responding to Hurricane Katrina, then-Senator Obama introduced legislation requiring disaster planners to take into account the specific needs of low-income hurricane victims.

(snip)

So much for putting aside childishness. Rev. Lowery was not an accident or an anomaly.
