We are not to pray for the success of people who are bent on destroying life in the form of infanticide. God will not bless anyone who sheds innocent blood. He will not support someone who makes the way for that to happen, especially when they had the power to protect. The OT is filled with God’s words regarding the actions of those who threw their children into the fires of Molech’s belly. Do not be deceived, we can pray for conversion, but not for his success when it goes against God’s mandates.
Your need for “success” is what deceives you now. What is successful about making abortion on demand a priority? This one issue is what will destroy any efforts he makes. You cannot begin with funding for open murder and expect a good result.
No. You are wrong. I will pray for God’s will to be done first and foremost. If Obama cannot obey God’s way, then he is doomed to failure. That failure may not show itself this side of heaven, but it will surely be evident at that moment he stands before the Living God.
Selfish? Are you nuts? How is it selfish to see the truth and respond to it with THE TRUTH?
I posted scripture directly from the Bible.
The Roman govenrment of Paul’s day was much worse than what we see today (abortion? death and torture was promoted as “entertainment” by the Roman government.) Yet, Paul still said pray for them.
If you have a problem, it isn’t with me it is with the Apostle Paul. Go read that scripture again and determine what Paul meant.
I never said we should pray for his success in the abortion policies. I think we should all pray for him to see the light. Read Daniel chapter 3. If it can happen with him, it can happen with Obama.
“Your need for success is what deceives you now”...I have no idea what this means.
I consider this the best country in the history of the world, I think it should stay that way. How it’s done, is not my job.
There is no righteousness in surrendering to the enemy.
I believe it’s selfish to not recognise that others may view the truth differently than you, and to actually wish for those persons to fail.
It means that what you actually want is peace and stability that keeps you happy, regardless of the other issues at hand. It means you want Obama to “succeed” so it looks like what he is doing is okay. It means you are putting your head in the sand and hoping you don’t choke.
It is naive to pray for one who is possessed, except to rid the possession. While possessed there is not free will in the usual sense.
Also the possessed person has to desire at some level to be free of the evil encumbrance. My impression is that O relishes the evil intrusion.
I see nothing wrong with peace and stability. We each have issues that are important to us, besides, I believe all things happen as God would have it. I trust His plan for humanity explicitly. I want any president to succeed in keeping this country the best in the world.
I have to share this with my Christian FRiends, and I believe it clearly belongs here, with regard to praying for Obama. This morning, I went to a prayer group to pray, and we prayed for several hours for the nations. Not just America, but also for Israel, Africa, and all nations of the earth.
Now, one of the ladies there while praying for Obama, prayed for “chaos and confusion over the Executive Order” he plans to use to overturn Bush’s policy on the Mexico City plan (using US tax dollars to support pro-abortion organizations around the world). She prayed that God would bring chaos and confusion to that Order and that it wouldn’t be able to be signed.
Well, after we were finished praying, I was in the car and Rush was on—talking about the confusion Obama had in signing the Executive Order this morning (not for the Mexico City plan, but for closing Gitmo—equally heinous). I couldn’t stop laughing! God is faithful, and he answers prayers, even ones we don’t always ask for specifically, but generally.
So here’s my new prayer for everything heinous from the Obama administration:
Chaos and Confusion in all their ways. May their paths be littered with the same debris they left on the National Mall after the inauguration. May they be faced with constant obstacles in their way. Let God’s hand muddle their minds and their processes so that nothing gets accomplished, at least not without a public display of their confusion.
Sweet victory! :-)
You are correct. God will intervene in the affairs of men, as long as we keep on praying for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Others have commented here that we should not be praying that Obama fails. It appears they have a different idea about what success is is.
Jennifer Mesko tells us we shouldn't pray for our enemies or those in authority over us. Jesus tells us we MUST pray for them.
Who are you going to follow? Jennifer Mesko, or Jesus?
What a namby-pamby unconservative this Jesus fellow is! I'm joining the Church of Jennifer Mesko. Where can I sign up? If one doesn't exist, I'll worship Jupiter. None of this soft, unmanly "praying for our enemies" for me!!!!!!!1!
But seriously, isn't it clear that praying for the authorities or for enemies and supporting those people's actions aren't necessarily the same thing?
Absolutely. We can pray the he makes good decisions instead of the really really really really bad decisions he has made over the last 3 days and we can pray that God changes his heart from a cold dead heart of stone to a heart of flesh that is open to His leading.
As the early church prayed for Nero, we are compelled to pray for Obama. I'm sure many back then did it with great reluctance, but they did it. While Nero undoubtedly is rotting in Hell, those that prayed for him will be rewarded. God may never answer our prayers, but he will reward our faithfulness.
How should we be praying for Obama, as Christians? I found this article to be extraordinarily helpful. Very good advice:
http://www.jwipn.com/pdf/How%20to%20pray%20for%20the%20sick.pdf
(Even though it says “how to pray for the sick,” it’s really how to pray for the government. I guess both are right.)
