Bush Legacy: A Liberator of 50,000,000-- A President Who Kept US Safe

History will be kind to George W. Bush.

In the years ahead historians will look back at the Bush years and see:

A leader who kept America safe,

A warrior who went on the offensive against Islamic terrorism,

A Christian who liberated 50,000,000 Muslims from two of the most brutal regimes in modern history,

A hero who would not leave the battlefront in defeat,

A visionary who brought democracy to the Middle East.

Kevin Hassett at Bloomberg reported today:

...Might history judge him favorably?

The argument for his eventual vindication is stronger than many might expect.

On foreign policy, Bush emphasizes that he pursued a “freedom agenda” and spread freedom to Iraq. While the Iraqi future is far from clear, it is possible that the country becomes a democracy and a reliable ally of the U.S. If that transformation is completed, then it could well be viewed as a turning point in the war on terror.

On the home front, to virtually everyone’s surprise, we’ve avoided a terrorist attack since Sept. 11.

Hard to Argue

So it is hard to argue that Bush’s policies were a failure.

The unpopular war may have trashed his party, but it didn’t have the same effect on the country...

The insignificance of Bush’s economic policy, though, might work to his advantage.

We are in the midst of the worst recession of our generation, yet it is hard to attribute this crisis to anything that Bush actively did... Instead, the forces that allowed the financial sector to blow up -- deregulation, for example -- were in place when he took office.

...If we look back and see only a worse-than-normal recession, then the Bush legacy will depend on the future of Iraq, and its role in smoothing out the Middle East. In the best-case scenario, Bush will have been a good -- maybe even a great -- president.

Bush’s legacy will be fine in the eyes of the unvarnished truth, but it will take time for the tide to turn the control of the truth away from the varnish of liberalism.

The PEOPLE of the UNITED STATES, most of whom I assume were Republicans, elected George W Bush to be POTUS, TWICE.

So, if anyone destroyed the Republican Party it is those of us who voted for him.

He did NOT deceive us about anything that I can find, he wore his luke warm compassionate conservatism on his sleeve for all to see.

We got what we voted for and the one thing he will leave office with that is historically significant is the freeing of 50 million people and setting in place policies that have prevented another attack on soil.

We got what we deserved and in some cases MORE!!

I’ve always said Bush is a mixed bag. I defended him for the longest time on Iraq which I believe was warranted. What I still do not understand is why he decided to attack his most loyal supporters on immigration which caused a key rift in the GOP which the party still hasn’t recovered from. Also his inability to effectively fight back and maintain his own narrative on everything from Iraq to the economy just puzzles me. He has did a lot of good in protecting this country but he has also failed on a scale we will not be able to appreciate for years to come with his compromising approach trying to win over Democrats. It never worked and only served to produce a series of very bad pieces of legislation.

First the nationalization of airport security in the creation of the TSA. That was a failure. The medicare prescription drug benefit was another failure. Education funding skyrocketed with little results. Somewhere a long the way Bush lost his veto pen. He is a President who could have been great but became one who strived for smallness.

He had the opportunity to cast those who have as a goal to weaken America into the fire after 9-11 and instead he gave them a platform from which they can march us back to the edge of oblivion. His biggest fault may have been that he is a nice guy. Bush’s strength and his fault was that he was a clear window nothing more nothing less. That said nice guys don’t sit back and allow those who fight for us and the very foundations of this countries freedom disintegrate under his watch.

It won’t be long before GWB’s personality characteristics, such as a genuine humbleness and simplicity, are fondly remembered as he is replaced by the insufferable pomposity, arrogance, and conceit of the Deity-elect.

Regarding Iraq and Afghanistan, at the end of the day, the best claim you can make is that twenty to fifty million devil worshippers were liberated from political oppression. A truly happy ending would have them liberated from political oppression AND devil worship. Devil worship is not a good thing...

It all depends on who writes the history.

Democrat historians have been slandering Warren Harding for 85 years, and have managed to brainwash 98% of the American public.

Your forgot: Grew the Federal Government (social progrms) by more than any prior administration.

Bush is OK as long as you are willing to forget that he is not a conservative.

Thank you very much visitor from the future. One more Bush accomplishment: making time machines possible!

One thing I always keep in mind despite some of the negative feelings I have towards Bush is “Could I have done better?”

It’s always easy to sit in our homes and badmouth him, but we don’t have to deal with the things he has to deal with, we don’t have to shoulder the burdens he has to shoulder, we don’t have to listen to the things he has to listen to, and frankly, for all our judgements on him, would any of us want his job? I can tell you right now that nothing in this world would give me the desire to be President.

No President in History can claim to have been totally perfect, and Bush is no different. But it cannot be said that he hasn’t done the world a few good favors and while I’ll be happy to see him go, I’ll still have a great deal of respect for him. Don’t ignore the bad things he’s done, but don’t ignore the good ones either.

Yeah; George W. is just peachy! A bloody shame he couldn’t find enough BALLS to prevent two hard-working border guards from being thrown under the bus for shooting a damned slime-bag drug-runner. Not only that, but he doesn’t even care enough to pardon the poor bastards. I would love to see every employee of the INS and any other job even remotely related to give the finger to the GW’s of this world and let the spicks come over in droves. I voted for him, twice, and as far as I’m concerned, he can go to hell and take his daddy with him.
