I think “some Marxism” is a split infinitive. Marx’s philosophy is all or nothing. Which is why it leads to totalitarianism. However, this analysis is too subtle for “progressives”.

Obama’s scenario has been observed many times before. A charismatic leftist leader (Castro, Chavez, Peron, etal) grabs power, and the lower classes love him because he will “punish the wealthy”, and their lives will be fulfilled. Or so the promises go. I look at Obama and see the same enthusiatic well nigh orgiastic crowds who loved and supported Eva Peron. He will do no better with his Marxist plans than did Castro or the Perons.
