It was the kids who told on the janitor. In fact, the administration took "statements" from the students for two days on this incident before they called me in on the third day to hear what I had to say. The kids' statements of course held more weight than the adults. And this three day investigation was all regarding unauthorized fiscal responsibility speech from a maintenance worker. If it hadn't happened to me I wouldn't believe it!
Meanwhile I had consulted a lawyer who advised me to resign from this insane asylum. I did so and gave them a letter that said I intended to take further legal action if they in any way let this ridiculous incident affect my future employment. I worked at one other public school after that before I decided that I couldn't be part of such a system anymore. Now I teach for private online academies.
