One of the things that seems to be getting lost in the shuffle with all the crazy stuff the Democrats want to do when they take power is Net Neutrality. It's one of those feel good sounding terms that appeal to the ignorant. It's important that we band together and put a stop to it though, because it's the first steps toward regulating the internet.
The government has ruined the mortgage industry and by extension damaged much of the economy. The public schools are a disaster. The heavily regulated automobile industry is a disaster. The regulations on the energy industry are creating artificial scarcity. The government destroys almost everything it touches.
"[Dorgan] graduated from Regent High School and earned a B.S. from the University of North Dakota in 1964 and an M.B.A. from the University of Denver in 1966. Dorgan worked in management for a Denver aerospace firm, eventually earning a position training others for high ranking company positions. Senator Dorgans public service career began at age 26, when he was appointed to the office of State Tax Commissioner in North Dakota..."
In other words, he went right out of school into management and after a few years he was appointed to a position in government. He's been there ever since, eventually getting a position in the House and then in the Senate.
"He has introduced, with varying levels of success, several amendments to end the U.S. prohibition on travel to Cuba, and to terminate funds for anti-Castro broadcasting." Hey thanks for that. Let's make things easier on dictators and thugs.
Byron Dorgan is a career politician with almost no experience in the private sector, or as I call it "Real Life." Yet look at all the positions he holds in the Senate.
Committee on Appropriations
Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation
Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
Committee on Indian Affairs (Chairman)
Wow, Dorgan is a real Renaissance Man. He's an expert on Water AND Power, Indians and their various affairs, Science, Technology, AND Innovation. Of course, no one can know about all these things. This is why government can't solve problems. Politicians don't know how to do anything but get elected, and yet they end up in charge of everything.
The informed electorate's job does not end the day after election day. Call your senator and representative in the house. Tell them you want the government to stay out of the internet.
If they bring back the fairness doctirine, the internet will be the only place left for people like us to band together. We can't let them bring "fairness" to the internet too.
China has “fairness” on the internet too. Google approves.
Have you seen the China Channel Firefox add on? It let’s you experience China’s absurd internet censorship first hand.
The above problems with the federal government are really a consequence of the people not knowing the federal Constitution and its history, in my opinion. More specifically, the Founders made the federal Constitution to limit (cripple) the powers the federal Government so it would remain a small federal government. This is evidenced by the following statutes.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 18: To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution (emphasis added) in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof. The reason that we have an unruly huge federal government today is the following. In the 1930s, Constitution-ignoring federal Democratic lawmakers and justices led by FDR essentially politically repealed the above statutes in order to start FDR's constitutionally unauthorized New Deal federal spending programs. Sadly, one reason that the people have never put a stop to Democratic spending shenanigans is because they are as constitutionally ignorant as the lawmakers that they send to DC are.10th Amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm actually glad that Socialist Obama is president-elect. This is because the people are ultimately going to be forced to reconnect with the Constitution and its history in order to protect themselves from constitutionally clueless Obama's misguided pen.
You’re absolutely right about how we got here, but unfortunately I’m not optimistic about the Obama presidency leading to a renewal of American values.
I HOPE it does, but unfortunately people have been manipulated into this death spiral where government causes a problem that leads to the uninformed demanding more government meddling which leads to more problems and on and on.
If we’re going to pull out of it, just letting socialism fail isn’t enough. We also need to educate people about the Founding Documents and the danger of state control.
Ha ha ha, that’s fantastic. Where did you get that? Can I get a t-shirt or something with that on it?
Net neutrality is a good thing, as long as it means the internet will stay the way it is now.
The opponents of net neutrality support allowing the telcos to meddle with the internet, creating tiers in quality of service, based upon how much a subscriber pays.
Sites like FR wouldn’t exist as we know them if a tiered system were to be implemented.
if dorgan were a republican,
he’d be toast; he would have been ousted for taking the money from abramoff.
but if you’re a democrat-socialist, it’s like the game of horseshoes—close counts.
I stole it from someone here on Free Republic.
