Hugo Chavez, Iran, Russia, China, FARC, and drug cartels have a new ally: the United Auto Workers. The UAW's chief lobbyist announced they would put on a full court press in the hopes of preventing the Colombia Free Trade Agreement, saying, "We don't think we should be doing free-trade deals with countries that are murdering people because they're engaged in union activity."

The UAW, Democrats, and leftists of South America seem to ignore one very important fact: the unions in Colombia desperately want the FTA to go through!

What total idiots they are!! I’ve worked in Colombia in the past and wonder how it is that our (supposedly informed) politicians don’t understand that the FARC are using the unions, that they have even infiltrated them????

Bush is obsessed with this.

Or maybe he’s counting on a multi-million dollar honorarium speech in 2009 in Bogota for “a job well done.”

The whole Bush family should move to Latin America. They are out of place in the USA. More like patrons.

If it’s true Obama leaked a trade off, I am happy. It shows where Bush’s priorities are and always have been.

I don’t know what you mean.

But the more I think about it in general, it must be true, and Obama leaked it, for which I am glad.

Look at it in another way, if Obama was going to lie or spin about Bush, why would he make up something about the Colombia Free Trade Act, which no one really cares about or is talking about now?

He didn’t. Bush is showing his plutocratic colors to the end. And his obsession with destroying American jobs and unification with Latin America.

I don’t know where YOU have been, but there are plenty of people who CARE about it. Colombia deserves to be rewarded for its good work. And, as for jobs, talk to those who work for Caterpillar. Colombia would LOVE to buy equipment from them, but the tariffs are too high. The Trade agreement would remove this and other barriers to several goods and services that we could provide. It would indeed help OUR economy in this time of crisis. We already import goods from Colombia for which they do not have to pay extra fees. The trade agreement would make it more equitable for both countries. In other words, it would help US.

I would expect these remarks on left wing sites. Instead of rational discussion on the policy, you personally attack President Bush. Your attack is outrageous. Bush is an honorable man, a man of strong conviction. His support for the trade agreement is based on principle, not personal enrichment.

I strongly support this trade agreement. The UAW is in bed with terrorists in its hatred of trade agreements. The UAW is a major reason for the lack of competitiveness in the auto industry. The UAW wants to force this lack of competitiveness on the entire economy and ban foreign competition.
