Obama's Assault Weapons Ban plan disappears down the memory hole

Moments after the election the media breathlessly reported that gun sales had hit record levels. What the media did its best to obfuscate is the vigor with which President-Elect Obama will pursue egregious restrictions like the "Assault Weapons" Ban (AWB).

The Kansas City Star was one of many newspapers laying down covering fire for the AWB.

It... is unclear whether a serious push for regulation is likely from Congress. The number of Democrats there who support gun rights has increased. Also, the party fell short Tuesday of winning a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, leaving Republicans leverage against laws they don’t like.

What the Star "forgot" to note is that Obama's new Change.gov website had explicitly described the desire for an assault weapons ban ("Making the expired federal assault weapons ban permanent") -- along with a host of other gun-ban tactics.

However the offending page -- http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy/ -- quickly disappeared down the memory hole after staff realized their plans had been revealed just a bit too soon.

The NRA-ILA has a PDF snapshot of the page held by the Google cache prior to its disappearance. And it completely explains the duplicity of the Obama campaign when it comes to the Second Amendment.

Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign slogan, "the audacity of hope," should have instead been "the audacity of deceit." After months of telling the American people that he supports the Second Amendment, and only hours after being declared the president-elect, the Obama transition team website announced an agenda taken straight from the anti-gun lobby--four initiatives designed to ban guns and drive law-abiding firearm manufacturers and dealers out of business...

Read the whole thing. And for those of you citizens represented (or should I say "ruled"?) by "Blue Dog Democrats", a few telephone calls and emails might be in order.

Of course, the proposed ban wouldn't apply to the ruling class; only to the rabble like us. This is evidenced by a recent photo of U.S. Secret Service agents protecting the President-Elect on a visit to the gym.

Whereupon commenter Jay.Mac dryly observed, "And look -- they're armed with the type of weapons that Obama wants to permanently ban for the rest of America because 'such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.'"

Be warned: you can be sure that the offending page only went on a temporary hiatus.

They may have my scary-looking “assault rifles” when they pry them from my cold dead hands.

Maybe some of the Dems remember the last time they passed an AWB (in ‘94). Later that year the GOP took control of the House for the first time in 40 years, picking up 54 seats.

I wonder what the turnover will be for both the military and the secret service.

I remember that Clinton stated his regrets. I still didn’t see any tears.

Buy’em while you can!

I hope the manufacturers are pushing them out as fast as they can, 24/7. I hope the magazine makers are running at full speed too.

I know a guy who recently bought a Stag (righty, not lefty though). The reviews on them are generally favorable, but I've never fired one.

There are many different AR-15 manufacturers. The ones I have experience with are Olympic and Rock River. Olympic's are OK, but they're kind of sloppily built. Rock River's are pretty solid for a good price. I'd imagine that Armalite makes a good AR-15, seeing how they invented the thing in the first place, but they're kind of pricey.

Blue Dog Democrats, to my fellow Tennesseans who live in a district represented by a Democrat - call your new Congressman and tell him or her what you think. Those of you in the Ninth District (Memphis/Shelby County), KMA.

There was a time not too long ago that only the Ninth District had a Democrat Representative.

All the dems need is a little outrage over a school shooting. They will pass another assault weapons ban, it’s just a matter of time.

The dems will over reach — it’s what politicians with big majorities do.

i saw a VERY nice Bushmaster AR-15 a few days ago.

as soon as i said i was a lefty, the guy told me to check out stag arms. they evidently have the market cornered on lefty AR's.

even after the advent of the brass deflector, the casings still would hit me in the face. so i kinda need a lefty version and it looks like stag is the only way to go.

i went to www.stagarms.com and they are nice lookin...

Buy “Boston’s Gun Bible”

If you still won’t buy a 308, then get the Stag. Great company. Great rifles.

well i am in NYC. range isn't a big factor yet. it will be once i move out. i just bought a binelli nova 5-shot pump. i have pistols for work.

i think an AR-15 is the logical next step. once i move out of the city, i'll get a rifle. they will always be available, maybe not so with the AR's.

Yes, Mr. “T. Party” knows his stuff. Great chapters on law, preparation, tactics, mindset, etc. too.

I didn’t have many problems reloading and cocking a standard Ruger 10/22, but then again it’s not an AR-15 platform.

I would guess you and I would both feel very comfortable with a lefty bolt-action.

1. I wish I had the money to spend on firearms.

2. I wish I didn’t have to register any firearms I would purchase.

3. I wish I didn’t live in NYC.

Man, I need to talk to a priest I haven’t seen in a while...

I don’t mention NYC in a positive light because we have a dictatorial mayor who just had the door opened to run for a third term. If he gets the third term, he’ll believe he has a mandate from the people to die in office, and he’ll be the mayor of New York City for the rest of his life. I don’t like it here and I wish I had the brass and money to get the heck out of here.
