[video] Howard Roark Speech from The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand)
YouTube ^ | Ayn Rand / Gary Cooper as Howard Roark

Video clip of Howard Roark (Gary Cooper) giving his speech in the courtroom in The Fountainhead. Very applicable in these pre-election days, considering that the "parasites," collectivists, and redistributors have a shot at ruining this country in less than a week.

Society benefits from the creative producers - NOT BY RIGHT, but as a byproduct. Everyone wins.

Conversely, the creative mind cannot produce through force.
Then everyone loses.

This is one of my favorite books and a great movie too. It definitely takes on socialism/communism in a great way.

It should be something required to be watched by high school students but if they are like my children they can’t watch anything in black and white.

That book and Atlas Shrugged have sat on my shelf for a while now and I have been intending to get around to reading them but keep getting distracted by other things. Maybe it is in part because of their huge length. But now, after seeing this, I have to read both of them.

Atlas Shrugged was never more applicable than right now. What is going on with Hussein--is precisely what Ayn Rand warns about many, many years ago.

Great book--should be must reading in every high school. Of course that means that liberals despise it.

I read Atlas Shrugged every year. It’s the best book ever written, IMO. It’s long, but once you get going, you’ll blow right through it.

Yeah. I agree. I never read Rand in high school or college. Come to think of it the only somewhat conservative writer I ever read for school was a chapter or two from Smith’s wealth of nations. Pretty depressing considering all of the Marx, Kingsolver, Eichenrich, Chomsky and others. Before grad school, the only non-Marxist stuff I ever read was apolitical or for my own enjoyment.

I have not read Atlas Shrugged but I will definitely get it immmediately and read it.

No matter who wins some action needs to be taken to stop the beast. What that action will be I don’t know.

I know at some point we have to say enough is enough and bring our country back to the principles it was founded on.

I just bought myself a copy at B&N. I overheard a couple of the clerks talking about early voting lines here in Broward County, FL. While not naming their favorite candidate, enough clues seeped through that it was BHO.

As I purchased the book, the clerk said she’d never read the book but has always meant to. I said, “me too - that’s why I’m reading it now”. The other said her Attention Deficit Disorder would keep her from reading it. LOL

My clerk asked if I wanted to purchase the B&N discount card. I said “no thanks - I won’t be spending that much money here anymore to make it worth it” She said “that’s not good for *us*” and I said “yep”.
