John Murtha, a former Marine himself Murtha has to be the only former Marine extant. I can't believe the Marine Corps extends him the curtesy of lifetime membership.
He is a living example, though, that recruiters do make mistakes.

Lee Harvey Oswald and the murderer who shot from the tower at UT about 30 years ago were also former Marines. What makes Murtha "extant" is that unfortunately he is still breathing.
