Ramos and Compean: Illegal Immigration Issue Leaves No Justice For Border Agents

Guest Commentary by Laurie Roth

This week I thought I would lose my mind when I heard of the horrifying decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals against Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. So many of us who had followed this case for the last few years were hoping that once all the evidence had finally been heard, unlike with the first trial, that justice would be done. Wrong!! Justice was not done!!!

You may recall in the first trial that the illegal alien, drug thug Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila, who brought 743 pounds of marijuana over our border was given immunity by Prosecutor Sutton to testify against the two agents. I remember hearing Sutton and his cronies implying that the two agents were rogue racists against Mexicans and had shot a poor, desperate illegal alien in the back of the butt while he was running away from them. On and on the distortion, misinformation….ok….lies went on. I had thought from the very beginning that the racist accusations regarding the two agents against Mexicans was fascinating since Ramos and Compean are Mexican-Americans. It was also fascinating that ‘suddenly’ ...

I was sooo angry when I heard what they had done. The only thing that will get them out of prison now is a pardon, either by Bush or Congress. We KNOW Bush will not do it, so we’re going to have to put pressure on Congress.

Has Bush ever said why he won’t pardon these guys?

Did these two Gov't officers fire their weapons and then mis-report (on purpose/lie) about such actions, or not?

That this POS illegal was involved in this situation is not an excuse -

A police-state we are not, yet.

“Has Bush ever said why he won’t pardon these guys?”

No, what he has said is ‘these things take time to review, must go through the proper channels, blah, blah,.....

BUT he has plenty of time to send Rice and another cabinet head to stop Texas from a legal execution of a murdering Mexican illegal alien.

Federal officials try to block Texas execution to allow review of case

Look at Bush’s record of pandering to the Mexican government.

Look at statements by the Mexican government to the effect that wherever a Mexican is, there is Mexico.

I guess that speaks for itself.

As for Congress, forget it. They are an even worse herd of panderers than the Administration.

This Congress and this President have been the worst catastrophes to ever afflict the America people.

Its no wonder both their ratings are in the gutter. They should all be fired.

And neither Bush, Congress, Obama, nor McCain will truly do the right thing about this, and grant pardons to these men.

Neither the house nor the senate has the power to pardon or commute. That is constitutionally the sole prerogative of the executive branch. Congress CAN NOT grant a pardon or commute a sentence.

See Article II Section 2 of the United States Constitution.

Something about this case stinks to high heaven. These 2 agents are victims of a “political set up”; which I think goes all the way to Bush's desk. I don't know why this is being done; but Bush's record of protecting the southern border is poor if not criminal. It's this failure to protect the border and those who patrol it; that should lead to impeachment, not the moonbat fantasy crimes.

These Americans are living in worse prison conditions then the pieces of Mohamed in Gitmo. For the first time in my life I'm not proud of my country. Justice failed here.

Agreed. Bush should be impeached for violating his oath of office by refusing to enforce the Federal Laws against illegal invaders. The only problem here is that Congress would have to try him and a lot of the villains in both political parties sitting there agree with this.

What has happened in Bush's last term, and the choice we are facing in November, are very cogent arguments for a third political party.

From my understanding, the error in reporting the shooting was a procedural issue, not a violation of law. Regardless, the sentences for their actions were way out of line. They should be home with their families.

Exactly!
We speak of ‘Nation of Laws’, what does it show if we ignore the facts on this case?
These two made a mistake. Found guilty by a jury of their peers.

However, I do believe the sentencing was over the top.

Agree with you on the sentencing, too long (though I believe most non-violent sentencing is too long....but it is all part of the money eating legal system)...

Bummer! I thought Congress could issue pardons. So, I guess the only hope they have for a pardon is from Bush, or perhaps they can appeal it to the USSC? Those men should never have served one day in prison.

The Bush administration is playing politics with their lives and that really angers me. I am terribly disappointed in Bush over this matter.

No, it was not procedural - It was multiple times and deliberate (from others testimony within this case).

Found guilty by a jury of their peers on the testimony of the victim whose relevant record was withheld by the Prosecution. This was topped by applying a law in a fashion it was never meant to be applied in the most aggressive fashion possible according to those who originally wrote the legislation.

That is what you call injustice!

Curious........ what part of the sentence do you think was over the top? The ten year minimium was specified in law thus there was no basis for anything less. The one year and one day Ramos got for his other convictions and the two years that Compean got were to be served at the same time the 10 yrs was being served. Thus Ramos has completed the one yr, one day and Compean will finish his in Jan. 09.

Haven't you heard, there will be a third party that has the largest membership in America? With a stroke of the pen, in the first hundred days of the next President's term, Mexican voters will out number both the GOP and the DNC. Then we will become a second Mexico, because they stick together. The Republic will be dead and there won't be a government position that isn't filled by Mexicans.
