Majority of San Francisco Homeless Have Government Funded Homes

Liberalism in action, California style:

The mayor and others are now admitting what the grand jury reported - that a majority of those on the streets are not homeless. The head of the city's homeless program, Dariush Kayhan, estimates that 50 to 75 percent of street people live in supportive housing.

"We just warehouse addicts," said the grand jury's Stuart Smith. "Granted, it is a nicer place for them, but it doesn't address the problem."

Almost three out of four people on the street live in supportive housing. The article explains that people who live in or move to San Francisco accept that things are going to cost more there because of all the caring they are compelled to do for all the "homeless people," but I wonder if they all know they are spending "$186 million a year on homelessness, six times what was spent in 1993-94."

I did the math in the article. There are a little over 6,000 homeless people in San Francisco. They are spending close to $30,000 per homeless person, per year, and not only can't solve the problem, the number of homeless is growing. Anyone surprised?

Maybe the problem is that 25% of them are seriouly mentally ill. I don't know what the problem is thei tht other 75%.

What you you think?

The government has made them dependent and helpless. I love when people say we should help the poor through socialist programs such as these and if you argue against them, it is because you are not “compassionate”.

It's Bush's fault. There were no homeless when Clinton was President.

All those millions of homeless when Reagan and Bush Sr. were in office just vanished during the 8 years the Clintons were in office.

If I were a billionaire I would setup billboards all across America telling the homeless to head to San Francisco. Same with illegals, but the signs would be in spanish. The signs would tell them that all housing and most food is ‘free’ in SF. I wouldn’t quit until at least 50,000 homeless and 1 million illegals went.

Funny, the speed of light is 186 million miles an hour. The dollars per year spent on the "homeless" and the speed of light in MPH is EQUIVALENT! It must be some sort of liberal physics conspiracy!

I was just about to copy and paste your stats in this thread. Thank you.

Their problem? The 75%? The San Francisco Liberal Establishment. That's what's the problem of 75% of the homeless.
