National Right To Life or National Right To Lie
Right Wing Champ ^ | 11/13/07 | Tim

Posted on 11/13/2007 2:03:33 PM PST by pissant

The National Right to Life Committee endorsed Fred Thompson yesterday. The question I have is...why? There are other Republican candidates with better pro-life records. In fact, Duncan Hunter has a 100% lifetime rating from the NRLC and 0% from NARAL. Here is the theories and rebuttals for the endorsement:

Why did the National Right To Life committee and NRLC PAC decide to endorse Fred Thompson? We won't know until tomorrow's press conference, but here are some theories

(1) His record in the Senate. It's strong and solidly pro-life. Rebuttal: But other candidates -- John McCain, Duncan Hunter, have better records. ... And Thompson was just as much of a force behind McCain-Feingold as McCain... and he lobbied on behalf of pro-choice causes in the early 1990s...

(2) Political calculation -- Duncan Hunter can't win; Mike Huckabee is too independent and allegedly alienates fiscal conservatives; Mitt Romney is going to be beaten and the abortion policies of his Mass. health care plan are a problem; Thompson will win in the South. Thompson will owe the NRLC. Rebuttal: The NRLC isn't generally like that; more than almost any interest group, it's faithfully represented the interests of its 3000 chapters and hundreds of thousands of members. And so far as political calculations go, Thompson's standing in early state polls has been declining.

(3) Huckabee hatred: the one person in the race who doesn't have to pander to pro-life activists has aroused the ire of the Beltway establishment. Rebuttal: again, the NRLC prizes itself on its independence.

(4) They forgot McCain-Feingold: Remember, NRLC and its affiliates are as responsible as anyone for the fight against the issue ad provisions of BCRA. Thompson has backed away from his support of those provisions, but his support of the thrust and principles behind McCain-Feingold is undeniable. Rebuttal: ??

-----------

The statement from the president of the NRLC said this:

Since announcing his candidacy in September, Fred Thompson has run second only to pro-abortion candidate Rudy Giuliani for the Republican nomination in the overwhelming majority of national polls. As pro-lifers throughout the nation begin to unite behind his candidacy, he will be well positioned to win the nomination and the presidency.

It's obvious that 1, 2, & 4 of the above theories are correct.

I’m sick of hearing about endorsements. As my parents always asked, “If your friends jump off a cliff are you going to do it?”

No thanks, I’ll do my own thinking.

Why did the National Right To Life committee and NRLC PAC decide to endorse Fred Thompson?

Because they know he actually has a chance to be nominated.

Rep Hunter, go for it! We are 100$ behind you. I just sent out this letter to 81 PCOs, and your mailer card to 48 other people today:

Dear Precinct Committee Officer:

Let me introduce myself. My name is____________ , and I am the volunteer contact person in ________County for the Duncan Hunter for president campaign. You may recall that I have spoken with some of you, or left word on your answering machines in the past few months.

If you have heard very little of Rep. Hunter, it is because the left wing main stream media wants it that way. Duncan Hunter is the one consistent conservative Republican candidate running for president, who stands for
preserving our sovereignty, our freedoms, and our prosperity.

Duncan Hunter is the candidate America is yearning for! He stands on a record in Congress which any man would be proud to claim. Duncan Hunter is not a politician. He is a statesman! In spite of his many accomplishments in Congress, he has not an enemy on either side of the aisle.

With Duncan Hunter, what you see is what you get. He is qualified beyond any other presidential candidate running. His credentials are impeccable. He has the cool mind and steady hand to guide the country through the troubled waters in which we find ourselves these days with the war on terror, and serious economic threats. He has solid solutions for bringing high paying jobs back to our shores, thus restoring the middle class, and insuring our ability to remain independent and free.

For 26 years he has represented his constituency in California’s 52nd District. He has, over those years, fought for what is in America’s best interests. He is deeply concerned about renegotiating our trade agreement with China; has been instrumental in rebuilding our military, so diminished by the Clinton administration, with his policy of peace through strength; has introduced a bill that life begins at conception; is for one man, one woman marriage; is very anti-illegal immigration, Rep. Hunter authored the bill which was passed and signed making a 854 mile double border fence the law. (He built one in San Diego years ago which cut illegal alien crimes there by 90%.) These are but a very few issues which Rep. Hunter has either accomplished, is currently working on in Congress, or will bring about during his administration.

He chaired the House Armed Services Committee for four years, and is now ranking member. He served in Viet Nam with the 173rd Airborne, and 75th Army Rangers for which he was honorably decorated with the Bronze Star. Thus he has expertise in military and in foreign affairs.

Rep. Hunter has been married to Lynne Hunter for 33 years. They have two sons, one serving his third deployment as a Marine in the Middle East.

To learn more about this fine man, please go to http://www.gohunter08.com. To listen to what he has to say, log onto: http://www.youtube.com/RasterMasterTV.

Grassroots support for Duncan Hunter is growing exponentially across the nation! He has a solid brigade of dedicated volunteers, of which I am one.

We must do our best to bump him up to 5% by December 1 in order for him to be included in the Iowa debate to be held and aired on Fox News December 4. It would be a tragedy if we let him down just when he is gaining traction. It is time we make up our minds who we seriously want to lead our country. If, after perusing the above links, you find Duncan Hunter best represents your vision for America, please step forward.

Because Rep. Hunter has been a true public servant, he is not a wealthy man, nor does he belong to any special interest group. Contributions are welcomed. This man has been in this race to win! First, let’s do our job to see that he does by supporting him generously. Then please contact me to see what else you can do to help.

If you have questions, or if you are interested in joining the Hunter Express, please call me at ___________, or email me at _____________. Please note your subject as DH or Duncan Hunter. I do not open unidentified emails.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

*******************************************

Anyone is welcome to personalize this letter to send out to either your Republican Precinct Committee Officers, or any mailing list you may prefer. Time is of the essence.

Well since you are so prophetic, you should have warned Duncan Hunter about his failed $63 million dollar DP-2 Project.

The more I think about this the more I think this was the “Not Hillary” strategic philosphy redux, sized to fit just our party. I bet they were thinking, “Not Rudy” and figured they had better give a boost to someone else they deemed could beat Hillary.

If you guys would spend as much time promoting Hunter as you do trashing FRed, you might make some headway. I think Hunter’s campaign could use the help.

NRLC is giving up way too early. Howard Dean was 43% in the polls in Dec., and John Kerry was 13%.

Then John Kerry goes down to 4%, only 3 weeks before the primaries.

Yes, Hunter could use some help. But a couple of things Jim.

1st, if you search FR by keyword, you will see daily, usually multiple threads on Hunter posted by me or other duncanistas, including tons of historical archives and congressional record stuff.

2nd, that means we scramble for every bit of news/blog info that comes out on Hunter. For every Hunter article generated by the MSM or even the conservative media (NRO, Weekly Standard, etc), there are literally dozens for each of the ‘top tier’ guys. So we don’t have nearly the options as the Mitt or Fred or even Huck fans. And much of what is blogged about Hunter is compare/contrast stuff to the rest of the field.

3rd, most of us here have at least given $$ to the Hunter campaign and many volunteer to do stuff in their home states to help

And finally, nothing anyone can tell me will convince me that Hunter is not the best man we have had enter the race since Reagan ran for re-election in ‘84. You saw the results of the poll here asking who would you pick if we were assured victory. That tells me there are alot of people pulling for Hunter that have not offered to help him. If we let this opportunity slip by, we can only blame ourselves. So climb aboard the Hunter bandwagon, we are gonna win this thing, for America.

Best put your efforts into supporting your candidate. Trashing FRed 24/7 will not help you and it’s wearing thin...

With all these organizations or religious “leaders” endorsing various candidates, and Pat Robertson even endorsing Rudy, we need to counter that.

Shout it to the country that Duncan Hunter has a 100% pro-life history - NO FLIP FLOPS - by writing editor’s letters, and calling talk shows.

The only religious talk shows I know of where you can call in, is aclj.org (but they only give you 20 seconds of fame) OR:

http://www.richardlandlive.com/ and you can listen online, if it’s not on the radio in your area, and you can also get the phone number at the link. It’s on Saturday afternoons, ET, so most people will have the day off to call.

Remember, you’re not just trying to convince Dr. Richard Land, who does like Hunter, btw, you are speaking to who knows how many thousands, or hundreds of thousands of values voters, who might not only vote, but DONATE to Hunter’s campaign.

I called both shows for Hunter.
