Yeah, you see the smoke from the previous round that mutt fired, he drops in the next round, but the explosion seemed to be behind him. Counter-battery fire? As you say, either way he’s dog food, buzzard bait, fish chum ... may he rot in hell as one of Arafat’s virgins.

I considered the possibility of counter-battery fire, but after viewing the video about 10 times, it looks to me like the explosion begins in the mortar tube. I think it was just a defective round.

Good news. I read about an SAS team that was looking for terrorists that were firing mortar shells into a British camp every night in Yemen. The SAS men found a mortar base plate hidden in the sand near the camp, and theorized the terrs carried the tube away every night and left the heavy plate in the same place. They put a mine under the base plate and covered it back up and returned to camp. That night, there was a large explosion from the direction of the mortar. next day, they found a large hole where the mortar plate had been.
