Disabling wireless device on laptop computer

Hi: I hope there are freepers out there who are more computer savvy than I am.

I am not a fan of wireless (phone or computer). I try to minimize usage as much as possible. I have a laptop (given to me from work) which has wireless capability. When I don't need to be online, I disable the wireless device by clicking on the icon.

Does this mean that when this is done, there are no microwaves emitting and receiving from the device?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It’s simple. Under the Airport menu, choose the “Turn AirPort Off” command.
