Immigration Reform from a different perspective

Posted on 06/09/2007 3:11:52 AM PDT by crossing_over

Dear Conservative Base -

I know that culturally, we may be on different planets. Yet after what I watched on C-SPAN2, a am so angered at Democrats and Bernie Sanders that I am now crossing over here. I know that perhaps many of you will see me as an example that they will wish upon many other foreign intellectuals so they won't try again "abusing" the H1B visa category the US government offered.

I am extremely angered by the mainly Democrats and Sanders sacrificing those that patiently waited and have done anything legally (!), whether citizen or legal immigrant, to satisfy their hunger for the Latino votes. And Republicans do not care, or they care only for cheap labor.

I personally honor the US as a country of freedom. I speak perfect English and I am white. I failed in the hoops of H1B to be devorced, and had to leave the US to never see my daughter again if this shitload of CIR is to pass. There is no voice for me, as a father has no right anyways.

You should be warned that this demagogue Bernie Sanders is not your friend! He is only doing the H1B bashing to advance his Communist ideas! Kennedy will let him to the dirty part. If you want to kick out all legal immigration, the economic effect on the US will be devastating.

Why is there no voice for legal immigration, or only lip service? a) the illegals do the really low-end jobs so they are no threat to the middle class, would be devastated by bills against them, but will provide ample votes to those that support them (through Latino voter base) b) the legals are potentially competing with middle class Americans, are seen as rich and smart enough to withstand all the discrimination thrown at them, and indeed, some mass-importers abuse the H1B which is why the category is unavailable within a day when it opens for a fiscal year

I personally can live with the US not wanting me, but I won't accept my rights to get back there snuffed out in exchange for amnesty for law-breakers. Not as long as I have a citizen daughter will I shut up. Give me a parent work visa with social benefits (retirement savings) allowed. I will not be alive at 140 to get a Green Card through my daughter! This is what that CIR nightmare holds in store for family immigration.

That CIR eliminates pretty much all legal ways to immigrate. No more Green Cards, more heavy restrictions on H1B, heavy restrictions on family reunification. The status quo is already terrible enough. And I also don't want to see a Tancredo moratorium on all immigration.

Wake up America, the honest Americans and those that are legal immigrants and honor American laws are screwed in the same way by the businesses and by the Democrats.

My story and own fight is on http://immigrationparentsreform.blogspot.com/.

If you are an educated English speaker then you are a good immigrants and I sympathize with the way you have been put though the ringer. You say you are white. Our immigration has been very biased against Europeans for 40 years. This needs to be changed. I’m not a white racist because I’m not even so “white”. I am Jewish. I want more European immigration and less from the 3rd world. Besieged white farmers from Zimbabwe and South Africa must be allowed to immigrate here’

All immigrants should be educated English speakers. Many Indians and other 3rd worlders fit this description

Welcome to the conservative base!

The good news is the blow the bill suffered this week.

I’m glad you are trying your best to do things the right way, and even learned fluant english. To many have come here with no expectation of assimilating into the culture. You have taken those steps (even despite your resignation to the fact of not having any chance of getting green status before you die).

The systm is long, the system is complicated, but- there is a system. Those jumping through the hoops to get/stay here should be granted the chance to stay until either they get full status, or Intel finds somthing wrong with them. God bless you on your path.

Best FRegards.
-Mac

Don't worry, we didn't just fall off the turnip truck! :)

I know two people (a Kenyan and an Australian) who are trying hard to become Americans- LEGALLY. They're getting shafted by the creeps we've elected.

Excuse me, why should they (the illegals) be granted to stay until they can legalize? This is exactly what is unfair about this immigration reform. It is either all follow the rules, or none! Not follow the rules and be screwed.

You miss-read me.

I said stay as they go through the process.

You yourself are evidence that one is capable of being not be a full fledged citizen, and still be here legally.

Simple misunderstanding of my words, I assure you.

We are a country of laws and you are correct. They should all be enforced equally. Law breakers should not be rewarded.

I heard about somebody from a close ally of the US who got divorced by an American (!) wife and will never see his three (American !) kids again. Divorced fathers and (failed) legal immigrants face double discrimination and no one has them in mind talking of family values. This is a sick society. It is as sick though in Germany.

Thank you, misunderstanding.
No I am not with you in the US anymore. I took a job in Germany. But this is what means under these circumstances, no legal way back in.
Still, I am fighting on from Germany.

Too bad that being divorced and now outside the immigration loop I am double-screwed by biased family courts and immigration laws. Makes me almost wish I could ask for a GC if I sign up to go help hunt down illegals. I am being sarcastic and provocative.

I don’t know if this will help you or not, but the U.S. military fast tracks foreign born soldiers and Marines for U.S. citizenship. If this information (available on many gov’t and mil sites) does not help you, perhaps you could get the word out. I am sorry for the situation with your daughter, and will tell you that immigration has been a mess here for years, largely due to the endless red tape. My cousin married a lovely Canadian girl and and it was over two years before she could legally join him here. I never saw anything so stupid and cruel and unfair in my life. They did the right thing and were punished.

On the bright side, it turned both of them into hardcore conservatives! Good luck to you.

Unfortunately, only Green Card holders can join the military. Not H1B, and not people waiting many years for GC. And I am about 40. But thank you for this hint and your wishes. I know that even Canadians can be in the same mess. And Americans in Germany, too.

I’ll pray you make it some day. :)

Where about in Germany? I was born in Frankfurt myself (US military family)

“In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

—Theodore Roosevelt, 1919

I do not know why you direct this to ovrtaxt. I would gladly declare myself an American. Yet the days are long gone where this alone was the qualifier to become one.
