Glenn Sacks Discusses the Texas Frozen Embryo Case on the Nationally-Syndicated Mike McConnell Show (Audio Available) Fathers' rights advocate Glenn Sacks discussed the controversial Texas frozen embryo case on the nationally-syndicated Mike McConnell Show yesterday. The case involves Augusta Roman and her ex-husband Randy Roman, who during their marriage tried for several years to have a child (and had one miscarriage) before undergoing infertility treatments. The day before the embryos were to be implanted, Randy told her that he was troubled by certain aspects of their relationship and wanted to wait to implant the embryos until they had resolved their problems. They went to counseling for six months and later divorced.
Augusta, who will be 47 in August, still wants to have the embryos implanted, and Randy has refused, leading to a high-profile court battle. Augusta has taken her case to the public via appearances on ABC's Good Morning America, NBC's Today Show and others.

They signed an agreement to kill their babies?
That is really sick.
All IVF clinics require couples to sign an agreement stipulating what will be done with the embryos in the event of divorce/separation or death or cessation of payment of storage costs (though in practice, in the event of non-payment, most clinics just keep storing them indefinitely if they can’t locate the owners to confirm that they no longer wish to keep them stored). Options are discard, donate to research, or donate to another patient (which is not an option in many cases, due to a variety of meddlesome federal and state laws, and also some real medical/ethical factors).
That may be true, however, I do not see how someone simply because they are divorced can kill their babies. Moreover, I do not see how Father’s Rights is more important than the lives of those babies that he wants to kill.
Prayers for the mother and her commitment to give the gift of life.
Gimme a break. Her “commitment” is to get what she wants any way she can. The only reason she’s not eager to dump these embryos is because she’s 47 and can’t make any new ones with her own eggs.
I have no way of knowing her reason not to kill her babies. However, if the choice is between the father wanting to kill his babies and the mother wishing to give life to her babies, I will have to side with the Pro Life mother, not the Pro Abortion father.
Whatever. Neither of them (nor I) regard them as “babies”. And the chance that any of them ever will be is quite remote. This woman had a substantial history of miscarriages by the time these embryos were created 10 years ago, when she was 37. Out of 13 eggs retrieved, only 3 survived long enough to be frozen (generally at the 8 cell stage). If they pop all 3 back in, there’s realistically less than a 5% chance any of them will result in a baby, and that’s even assuming she doesn’t have any more complicating issues that haven’t been made public (e.g. endometriosis and/or fibroids, which are more likely to be a problem at 47 than at 37).
