Happy 420!!!
Saskatchewan Drug War News ^ | April 18, 2007 | Moe Brondum

Posted on 04/20/2007 5:51:56 AM PDT by the_devils_advocate_666

420 is a symbol that connects marijuana smokers from all over the world to the cannabis culture. You may have seen it, read about it or heard it referred to by someone you know. Most commonly, it marks a time of day ( 4:20 ) or a date ( 4/20 ). On the date, April 20th, hundreds of thousands of Canadians will join millions of people around the world to gather, in private and in public, to celebrate the annual cannabis holiday.

Of course, it is not an official holiday, yet.

There are probably as many explanations of why April 20th has become so significant to the cannabis culture as there are people who observe the day. But, one thing seems to be common among them all and that is a desire for freedom. From the brashest activist to the closet toker, every marijuana user is acutely aware that they do not have it and that their involvement with marijuana might result in the loss of liberty.

Yet, we continue to do it. And, on April 20th, many will gather in public. These gatherings occur in parks and public areas across the country. In many respects, they are expressions of defiance. Defiance of the arbitrary laws that prohibit a plant that so many Canadians use for medical, spiritual and recreational purposes.

On April 20th, I will take my place among the hundreds of thousands of Canadians, who like me believe in freedom and the right of an individual to control their own bodies and minds. I will venture to the customary local gathering place, there is one in every city and town across this country, and celebrate the cannabis culture. I will smoke a joint with friends and pray that this is the year we gain our freedom.

Hope to see you there.

The war on drugs is a monumental failure. Marijuana needs to be legalized. Too many people’s lives have been ruined, too many taxpayer dollars have been spent, over a relatively (compared to alchohol & cigarettes) harmless soft drug.

Overcrowding in jails and law enforcement time spent on people that are not hurting anyone - there are too many other “really bad people” out there to worry about.

That’s my opinion, flame if you must.

Hey, I’m with you. I just posted this as a public service announcement for folks that may not be aware of the significance of 420. Might want to pay extra attention to what your kids are up to and who’s out there driving around at 4:30 with a good buzz on...

Just a warning to be a little extra careful out there today folks...

We're careful every day.

We draw the screens and mask the smell with incense and Ozium.

Oh wait...that's not what you meant, was it?

I think hippies really just want to be left alone to live their lives as they choose. Most of them are not violent people at all - maybe a little ditzy sometimes - but I know some real hippies and for the most part, they are very loving, peaceful people. They enjoy working the earth and minding their own business.

A couple of them do stink, though - so I see your point.

I agree, I have some “hippy” friends that I love dearly. However, we do our best to avoid political discussions...

Yep. Some of them that I know think of Republicans as “Nazis” or “Fascists”, but that’s just because they live so far out in the country - they don’t get cable tv & are forced to watch NBCABCCBS/The View to get their news.

Other hippies I know are good old boys that hunt, farm and have very conservative values - they are staunch Conservatives with a capital “C”.

People say I’m no good
I’m crazy as a loon
‘cause I get stoned in the morning,
I get drunk in the afternoon.
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade.
And I ain’t got no money
but I damn sure got it made.
‘Cause I ain’t askin’ nobody for nothin’
if I can’t get it on my own.
If you don’t like the way I’m livin’
You just leave this long haired country boy alone.

Where's your party?

--------------------------------------------------

April 20 is the world recognized international day of celebration for Planet Earth’s 170,000,000 humans in the cannabis culture. 4:20 began as a moment, then a whole day, of celebration when California high school students met after school in the late 60’s and early 70’s at 4:20 p.m. in the afternoon.

Classes ended at 4:00 p.m. so after a reasonable time to get one’s sh*t together, it was agreed to meet at “4:20” in the p.m. after school to get high. It passed from those high school students into the 70’s Grateful Dead culture where it spread all across the United States.

By the early 1990’s, 4:20 p.m was the toke of the day, the cannabis siesta. In the late 1990’s, spontaneous groups of 10’s, dozens, and hundreds people in cities around the world began a tradition. Over 35 alternative stories, legends, rumours about the origins of 4:20 are known to circulate, including in the mainstream media, but the simple explanation is the correct history.

Vancouver saw its first celebration on April 20 in 1997, when 50 people met at the downtown Art Gallery to smoke cannabis together at 4.20 p.m.

Today, if the weather is fine, over 7,000 people are expected to be jammed into the main city square at Georgia Street between Howe St. and Hornby St., beginning in the early afternoon and climaxing with a massive simulateneous smoke-out at 4.20 p.m today!

What’s going on in the cannabis culture today near you?

Here is the Cannabis Culture 411 for 420…

Ganja Get Together’s will be proudly protesting the unjust prohibition of cannabis by proudly promoting and puffing in cities across Canada, the United States and the World.

The 420 Smoke Outs, are a series of cannabis rallies that will demonstrate, as they do every year, the impracticability of enforcing the current marijuana laws.

April 20th is the grandest ganja day of them all, with enthusiasts from around the world celebrating what is known as Four Twenty (420).

With an international reputation, as the best day for holding marijuana demonstrations, drugpeace activists invite all herb enthusiasts to join them in solidarity.

Everyone is invited to publicly show their love of the weed and experience a taste of freedom on Friday, April 20th 2007, by doobie demonstrating with activists in your area.

Many well-known tourist’s traps have been targeted for toking in North America, from Toronto’s Yonge and Dundas Square, to Denver’s Civic Center Park, to the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, all the way to Vancouver’s Art Gallery and many more.

Two weeks before the world celebrates the Global Marijuana March on May 5th, the Cannabis Events on April 20th 2007 will be legendary for years to come.

If you have any pot Pictures, Video or Stories from any of the 420 celebrations below, please forward them to us at cannabisculture.com or POT.TV. Photos can be emailed to: jodie@cannabisculture.com

Sadly, we are having a more private celebration. Just my wife and a couple of friends at our place tonight.

To be completely honest, I haven't partaken myself in a couple of years---I prefer alcohol as my drug of choice (even though it is far worse for me).
