UN: What Hizballah Rockets?
ThreatsWatch.org ^ | 1 December, 2006 | Steve Schippert

A United Nations commission to investigate “flagrant violations” of Human rights by Israel has determined and recommended that Israel should be forced to compensate for damage inflicted in Lebanon during the month-long summer campaign instigated by a Hizballah attack into Israel.

While making no mention of the over 4,000 Hizballah rockets and missiles fired intentionally into Israeli towns to kill Israeli civilians, the commission was mandated to investigate what the UN Human Rights Commission termed the Israelis’ “systematic targeting and killing” of Lebanese civilians.

Commission member Stelios Perrakis attempted to dismiss criticism that the inquiry and resultant report produced was completely one-sided by saying, “Of course it (the report) was not one-sided, it was within the limits imposed by the mandate.” But any report on civilian attacks during the summer war that does not include 4,000 terrorist rockets slamming civilians by design cannot be taken seriously.

But this is the track to be expected of a UN Human Rights Commission has formally condemned and/or made findings against Israel no less than 5 times in 2006, while the whole of the world’s other human rights concerns have netted 0. A nation surrounded by terrorists who incessantly attack it gets the UNHRC’s undivided attention. Somewhere, there are mullahs and brutal dictators of various stripes smiling.

If there were a UN Human Rights Commission scorecard, for 2006 it would look something like the following:

2006 UNHRC Official Scorecard

5 Evil Zionists
0 Sudan
0 Iran
0 China
0 Zimbabwe
0 Remainder, Planet Earth

Note: While the mullahs are somewhere smiling at the UN and laughing at America, they are applauding Europe. John Rosenthal discusses the Eurpean war crimes lawsuit filed against Donald Rumsfeld in Germany in Germany Judges the World: ‘Universal Jurisdiction,’ War Crimes and German Law.

All the more reason to enter into negotiations with Iran and Syria, of course. …Or not?

Move the UN to Devil's Island where it belongs. Get the US out of the UN.

As one that has questioned the value of the UN for nearly four decades, I am not the least bit surprised by this report. What I do still find surprising is the perception the UN is an international body all but forced upon our nation. It is an international body that was brought into existence by American liberals and progressives. No other nation gives more financial support to prop up the UN than our nation. This fact alone is evidence of the UN origins.

As a nation we have an uncanny, and often harmful notion that everything with American roots is a worthwhile venture. We are either too naive or arrogant to abandon an American undertaking even when failures compound and we know there is nothing to salvage.

The dreamers of yesteryear had noble intents when they envisioned an international body where all nations would be treated as equals. The problem is that a great many nations participating do not acknowledge equals. How is it even possible such nations were ever allowed membership into this body if they hadn't first recognized the right of other nations to exist? Even if given membership, how is it possible these same nations are allowed to vote within the international body before they have come to accept their neighboring states, or concluded treaties granting recognition to states they are at odds with?

Should anyone be surprised the majority of Islamic states will always vote against Israel when on the state level they do not recognize Israel? Membership to such an international organization might help them resolves their differences, but they should be forbidden from voting on issues involving Israel while their state refuses to acknowledge the very existence of the state of Israel.

The UN is wrought with failure, but no greater failure is present than allowing full membership, including voting rights, to states embroiled in conflict with another member state brought before the full body for address.

Consider this from yet another perspective. How fair would trials be if known antagonists of the defendant were allowed to comprise the jury? Israel will never get a fair hearing before the UN so long as Israel's antagonists comprise any part of the jury weighing the evidence set before them. The overwhelming majority of the 57 member Islamic states with membership in the UN do not recognize Israel.

Even the UN official that has admitted on Hezbullah's use of cluster bombs, did it very late (much after "denouncing" Israel), when all eyes were somewhere else already.
Whoever thinks the UN is not hijacked by the Islamo Arab "lobby" mafia, does not begin to read the map.
