Ranting and raving about Iraq: regarding whether we should pull out of Iraq.

Posted on 07/25/2006 12:28:23 PM PDT by adorno

In another forum, somebody suggested that the U.S. pull out of Iraq because our presence there was the main cause of so many Iraqis dying on a monthly basis.

I couldn't take it anymore and posted the following:

I'm all for the Americans getting out. Right now.

Let the insurgents and terrorists have at it.

The Iraqis are incapable of rising to the task and taking care of themselves.

So what if right after the Americans pull out, the terrorists and insurgents will go wild and start purging the country of those that had anything at all to do with helping the Americans and the "puppet" government that the Americans set up.

The cleansing of the population may require that millions of people die. When you talk abut civil wars, the one in Iraq will be one of the deadliest. A civil war and the purging that will happen will make the killing fields of Cambodia seem small in comparison. I predict about 4 or 5 million Iraqis will be "purged". But, hey, was is hell and lessons need to be learned the hard way.

It may take years for the situation in the new Iraq to settle down. But, immediately after the Americans pull out of Iraq, the terrorists and insurgents will proclaim victory. And Osama and Ahmadinejad will be emboldened and will feel that they can get away with just about anything after that. And the Americans and Europeans won't be able to do anything about any new adventures al-Qaeda and Ahmadinejad want to undertake. Israel won't be able to defend itself. And they won't be able to count on the Americans. How could they after they saw how the Americans abandoned Iraq and its commitments? A new location will need to be found for the displaced Israeli millions. Though that new location will also be temporary. For, if the new superpowers of the middle-east, al-Qaeda and Iran have their way, the rest fo the world will be in their sights.

The al-Qaeda and Iran powers won't be able to be controlled. Except for a full-scale war: WWIII.

The world needs to go through another very violent world-wide confrontation before it begins to open its eyes again. Shortsighteness is running rampant right now in too many parts of the world. The lessons of WWI and WWII weren't learned. We're doomed to repeating the same mistakes.

(Notice I didn't mention the U.N. The UN is irrelevant. Has been for a long time. The UN is a completely incapable organization and although it exists, nobody expects anything of value from it. )

Agreed, but, whatever violence is occurring in those countries, we're not getting blamed for it? Are we?

Actually, we are. Japan and S. Korea both have said our soldiers cause trouble. But when we talked about pulling them out of Germany, the Germans suddenly realized that we were a large part of their economy and maybe we should stay.

Playing hardball and a little arm-twisting may get some of our allies to finally realize that they themselves are in danger and need to start supporting the WOT a little bit more.

Yes we are. Plenty of blame is being heaped upon our presence there. So long as we are there, the locals insist we vacate - until we actually start talking about vacating, at which point they beg us to stay (funny how that works).

On the whole, ignore blame. Just do what needs doing. Yes, that includes Iraq.

Americans who make these statements concern me. The reason for my concern is rooted in two major questions. I wonder if they have given the matter the critical thought it deserves before drawing conclusions. Have they considered these two questions?

What action will terrorist take after discovering that terrorist tactics successfully caused America to abandon its mission to help create a free Iraq?

And

What effect would another successful terrorist attack on America have on America’s economy?

A third question: What kind of confidence can any other American ally, anywhere in the world, have that the Americans will live up to their commitments?
