Heeeeeeeeeere's Ann! [Ann Coulter on "Tonight Show" - best part was the pro-Ann audience!]

Heeeeeeeeeere's Ann
I caught Ann Coulter on the Tonight Show. A+, home run, two thumbs up--choose whatever cliche you care to, Coulter did an outstanding job on Jay Leno's program. She was funny, intelligent, likeable, articulate, and a thousand other things without being obnoxious. Jay Leno discussed the controversy on everyone's mind regarding Coulter's lousy, meanspirited attack on a group of the 9/11 widows: "the words you've used have overshadowed the point you were trying to make." Coulter, for her part, seemed perplexed by the controversy: "I'm calling liberals 'Godless'! They're cool with that. Just don't criticize the Jersey Girls."

Coulter made the larger point that liberals choose victims as spokesmen--the Jersey Girls, Cindy Sheehan, Christopher Reeve--so that the positions they advocate will be immune from criticism. It's a cheap trick, and it makes one wonder about the complicity liberals have in causing the pain that inevitably comes from getting thrown into such contentious debates. The larger point seemed sensible even if the controversy demonstrating it made Coulter look insensible.

Perhaps the best part of Coulter's appearance was the audience. It's the first time I remember a major conservative figure appearing on a television talk show and hearing the audience cheer enthusiastically. This wasn't the stacked, firebreathing audience of a Bill Maher or Phil Donahue. It was actually pro-Ann, or at least a vocal minority made it seem that way. Leno was critical but fair, and, in perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening, liberal comic George Carlin pretty much kept his mouth shut during Ann's appearance.

After enduring a tough week, Coulter spent Wednesday on the Tonight Show and learned that her book (buy Godless here) will be #1 on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list this week. Had she not offered such inflammatory fodder on 9/11 widows, would the Tonight Show and the Today show have come calling? In other words, had she made her reasonable point about not using victims as spokemen in a reasonable manner no one would be talking. As talented a writer as Ann is, maybe her true genius lies in marketing.

Ann Coulter, Jay Leno, and George Carlin

Ann Coulter was a guest on "The Tonight Show" on Wednesday night. No fights broke out and the National Guard didn't have to be deployed to the stage.

In fact, the interview was pretty much a "non event". Those who turned in to see a possible verbal sparring match between Coulter and Carlin were sadly disappointed.

Carlin sat on the couch and remained silent except for a funny comment about moving to the right to allow her to sit down.

Leno tried to get her to admit she had been hurtful to people mentioned in her current best seller Godless but was unsuccessful. Coulter handed herself as she usually does; straight facts, calm composure, and sharp as a tack.

As I have stated in an earlier posting, what more could a man want...blonde, educated, and a conservative. Add this to the fact that she a woman that can handle herself in many different situations, how could a red blooded American man go wrong.

Check out the photos on her website. You will see what I mean. One last item. It was obvious that the studio audience LOVED her. She was interupted numerous times with applause of support. This coming from a Los Angeles (La La Land) audience. One just never knows.

Oh, well -- this thread has now been buried in "Bloggers & Personal" -- so NO ONE will see it.
It is probably just as well, though, because I am going to posting from the Dark Side here. :o)
Is it just me, or are all these lefty blogs a ROYAL PAIN to navigate?
From the Daily Kos:
-- snip --

...There is something more upsetting about the show than a guest whoring a book and making money off the suffering of others.  It was the audience.

During your monologue, I think you referred to them at one point as "The Right Wing Cheering Section."  I guess you were making it clear that you recognized they weren't merely partisan Republicans.  If that is what you were saying, I agree.  They are something else.  Something uncivil.  I listen to that bloodlust and I hear echoes of Bavarian beer halls and lynch mobs; echoes I never thought I would hear in my living room.  I don't want them in my living room.  I don't even want them in my country.

Fortunately, I can still change the channel.  But my options are dwindling.  The more I think about it, the more I fear the lights are going out across the dial, and they won't be lit again in my lifetime.  All I can say is I'm glad my grandparents didn't live to see this happen again. It would have broken their hearts.

Goodnight Jay.
Goodnight and Good Luck.

And, from jwl79.livejournal.com:
Live-Blogging Leno

The show just started, and Ann Coulter was described as a "controversial conservative". Does anyone ever describe Al Franken or Michael Moore as a "controversial liberal"? I'm pretty sure Moore has been called a "controversial filmmaker", but has been spared from the dreaded "l" word in his media appearances.

Leno just gave the news about Karl Rove... big cheers from the audience. Leno joked, "apparently we have a new right-wing cheering section here", to more cheers.

Leno: "Ann Coulter is here tonight", more cheers. Leno says that people sent him angry emails about Coulter, but he says that he also got such emails about Michael Moore being on the show. He said that he's going to have people on the show to say what they'll say, and that's all there is to it. Sounds good to me! Considerably more fair and balanced than Letterman.

George Carlin is doing a super-fast monologue in which he describes himself in unique terms. It's impressive that he memorized all of that and is reciting it so fast, but it's not actually funny. That's why he got virtually no laughs, but plenty of cheers.

Depressing talk with Carlin about how old he is. Blah.

Carlin tells a bizarre joke about all of the major religions except Catholicism having nuclear bombs, because Vatican City is too small for nuclear testing.

Weak clip of Carlin's voice acting from the movie "Cars". Minor laughter followed by dead silence. Ouch.

The whole Carlin segment was painful. Going to commercial, Coulter due out next.

Coulter comes out in... black dress and cross necklace. How surprising! Big cheers from audience. Carlin and Coulter make nice.

Coulter: "I'm Dorothy and I just dropped my house on the mainstream media", big cheers.

Leno reads the infamous Jersey Girls quote, very minor murmurs of disapproval from the audience.

Coulter making her point about victims who can't be challenged.

Leno asks, what's the point of the book, to advance ideas or sell books? Coulter's response is, more or less, both.

Coulter: "I'm calling liberals 'Godless'! They're cool with that, just don't attack the Jersey Girls." Cheers and applause.

Coulter says that modern 'incivility' is really just conservatives being able to respond in the media, more cheers and applause.

Leno asks about people who don't like her very much.

Coulter: "I wear their contempt as a badge of honor." More cheers.

Carlin sitting there, quietly listening. Amazing!

Leno: "The book is 'Godless: The Church of Liberalism'. Ann, thank you, always fascinating having you here." More cheers and applause. Carlin seems elated, heh.

Musician guest KT Tunstall, whoever that is.

Kind of a weird song, but not bad, especially considering some of the 'musicians' they have on these shows. Much more enjoyable than the Carlin segment.

It's over! Fantastic publicity for Coulter, and no slings and arrows for her to deal with, either. A huge success!

Just don't go on Letterman's show, Ann!

I rather enjoyed it. She looped and made the whole thing background music herself, sorta cool in my opinion. She had a good strong voice, and was sexy, but not too sexy.

Smart move on Carlin's part. Ann would have cut him to peices if he spouted off.

Good grief, Conservatives have had almost NO "options" until the last few years! These guys are just whiners that can't stand it that they don't have total media dominance anymore. It's OVER and it's only going to get worse for them. Of course, he still has the NYT, WaPo, LAT, CBS, NBC, CNN, NPR, ABC, Time, Newsweek, AP, Reuters, etc, etc. I wish his options would continue to dwindle a lot faster.

He also seemed to really be disappointed that there wasn't the usual liberal crowd booing the Conservative guest. You guys did a great job!

I re-sized most of the MARVELOUS (new!) photos of Ann posted there, so that it loads MUCH FASTER for (those folks on dial-up connections) than it did YESTEDAY. :o)
