THE DEAD PELICAN ^ | MARCH 08, 2006 | Chad E. Rogers

**STATEWIDE EXCLUSIVE! MUST CREDIT THE DEAD PELICAN!**

If you’re big into talk radio, you’ve probably heard the ad by governor Kathleen B. Blanco where she reassures the public that her whopping new $20.3 billion budget isn’t big government.

Not long after the ad ran, talk radio junkies went ballistic, bombarding THE DEAD PELICAN with a series of inquiries, wondering exactly how the ad was paid for.

Rumors about the source of the commercial’s funding ran wild. Some were saying that tax dollars paid for it, but that rumor has been put to rest. THE DEAD PELICAN has inquired into the matter, and impeccable sources on the political scene have assured us that the money for the commercial came from Blanco’s campaign war chest.

So what’s the problem?

Campaign law requires for commercials such as this to end with a tag line saying “Paid for by the capaign to re-elect Governor Blanco.”

THE BLANCO AD AIRING ON RADIO STATIONS STATEWIDE CONTAINS NO SUCH DISCLAIMER!!!!!!!!

A source, well-versed in campaign law, was livid.

“Blanco’s propaganda is paid for by her campaign and is being broadcast illegally without a ‘paid for’ tag line. The point is she is being deceptive talking about shrinking the budget, while actually growing it by $2 billion. Playing the ad without a tagline leaves the impression that this is some official message from the government.”

Our source called it “a very cynical political ploy, perfectly consistent with her usual M.O. of putting her personal politics ahead of the real problems of the people of Louisiana.”

I’m just he messenger, folks! The complete audio file can be heard here.

I'm sure the FCC would like to hear which radio and/or TV stations are airing this without the disclaimer. And the FEC would probably like to know about it as well.

What advantage would be gained by not claiming the ad?

Appears to be above politics.

Blanco's approval ratings are either equal or lower than Bush's. She attempting to undergo an extreme makeover for the 2007 election.

I only wish Bush would do something about his low ratings. The bad approval ratings are largely due to his laziness in promoting a domestic agenda.

Kathleen Blanco appears to be an airhead.
