Now this is a well done and FUNNY piece, Chris! BRAVO!
"Uh no. -- Not if I got to explain it three efing times!"
Some replies on this thread prove that PT Barnum's victims are alive and well on FR.
Good heavens....don't you folks read the headline?
Do you think that it might help if you changed your FReeper name to 'Satire Writer' or 'Writer of Satire', or maybe 'Satirist'? How about 'Funny Writer' or maybe 'This-is-a-satirical-column-made-to-read-like-a-real-news-article-don't-take-it-so-doggone-seriously-guys'?
Funny stuff '33
One thing I do know however; the Supreme Court is already stacked with a majority of Conservative-appointed Justices, and yet it's still a bastion of liberal rulings.
Since Roberts, a conservative Cheif Justice, replaced another conservative Cheif Justice, Rhenquist, it's just a wash so far. The status quo has been maintained, nothing has really been changed. It will be the next SC justice who will actually be able to turn things around by 'swinging' the vote to the right, instead of playing the middle as Sandra O'Connor did.
These are the most perilous political times America has faced since the Revolutionary War, because we are now in grave danger of being ruled by socialists instead of being governed by virtuous American partriots who were molded by Christian morals and values. Because the Judiciary has usurped its Constitutional mandate and have managed to wrest power and authority from our elected Representatives, Harriet Miers could become perhaps one of the most important figures in American political history. She could become an American hero, or the great mistake that sealed our fate.
If confirmed, Harriet Meirs' vote on the SC could quite conceivably have the power to turn the tide against the juggernauts of Socialism, humanism, secularism, authoritarianism, and a gluttenous bureaucracy. She could help open the door again to a self-governed people, and to freedom of religion. She could help restrain the intoxicating, suicidal madness called political correctness. In this strange generation of judicial dominance, holding the "swing vote" on the US Supreme Court would give her more power than any single politician, including the President.
President Bush has entrusted all of this potential to one Harriet Miers, a woman nobody knows. May God be with her and guide her if she gets confirmed. She's going to need Him.
Have to disagree. The people who are 95% sure Bush will withdraw the nomination are still in first place. Right or wrong, Bush isn't backing down.
Thanks so much for the ping chris. I have read this a few times- even with one eye tied behind my back and I sincerely don't understand how people don't see this as satire. (It is even labeled "satire"). I am pretty serious about my politics- but I like to take a laugh at it every once in awhile as well. Good one- Chris-this one is pretty over the top. ;]
That's a great mentality in warfare, but in politics it can be deadly. If Miers gets confirmed and it turns out she's not a true conservative, or she's ill qualified for the job, we're all going to pay a price for a long time to come. Maybe the President should give a listen to those who helped get him elected.
The position on the Supreme Court that Miers could step into has enormous implications today, because she becomes the "swing vote" that either helps the conservative agenda or burries it under a heap of 'moderation' and political correctness. This gives a lot of people a lot of real concern, because nobody knows who she is. It's not a comfortable feeling to have your country's fate be entrusted to somebody you don't know and who has no judicial record to help you understand who she is.

You always catch 5-10 who just don't GET it : )
This gives a lot of people a lot of real concern, because nobody knows who she is.
So the President, who knows her, should listen to people that don't?
Good job. It never fails, every time FReepers read your satire, they think it's real. I would reccommend putting SATIRE in big, bold, and large fonts if their reactions weren't so entertaining. :)
He does represent the people, does he not? Or is this yet another lost article of the U.S. Constitution?
Anyway, I'm glad the Founders instituted a confirmation process that gives 'we the people' some say in the matter, because otherwise the watchdog of our entire political system (SCOTUS) would be left up to 'chance'.
With all due respect- I wouldn't change a thing-but hey.....that's me. I like to live dangerously... hehe.
