Local, liberal politicians are not prepared or equipped to provide help to citizens in a major natural disaster.

Let me correct that and remove a word:

Local politicians are not prepared or equipped to provide help to citizens in a major natural disaster.

I disagree. I believe there are some (perhaps not too many) good, moral leaders who can lead and use the resources within the bounds of their office to provide help to those in need.

Of course, the best place is for the person to help themselves, and then have their family, friends and neighbors help...but sometimes, a disaster is of such magnitude and incertainty that all of those are caught up in it. In such cases, a good moral leader can make a difference.

Let me fix it properly

Local ANY politicians is not prepared or equipped or really care to provide help to citizens in a major natural disaster.

As is evident by the bickering between them trying to shift blame from one place to the next they only care about themselves...
