Gasoline Prices & Katrina
Sue Bob's Diary ^ | August 31, 2005 | Sue Bob

With the rise of gasoline prices because of Katrina, I have been concerned that price controls would be instituted. I remember the 1970's and the long lines at the gas stations that resulted from government inteventions because of their adverse impact on supplies.

Yesterday, I heard Michael Savage ranting in favor of gasoline price controls. I decided then to ask a person who knows more about oil than anyone else I know personally, my Father--who is also named Jerry Ward.

Mr. Ward is a graduate of Texas A&M. He holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Petroleum Engineering. He has been a petroleum engineer since 1954 after serving in Korea. He retired in 1995. He has worked for independents and large oil companies. He has worked out in the field and as an executive in Corporate Headquarters. Here is my interview of Jerry Ward:

The same BP station in Lanham, MD premium gasoline price:

2 days ago - $2.89
Yesterday morning - $3.03
Yesterday night - $3.09
Tonight - $3.35

Just some data points.

Gee,what a load of dung.I haven't seen one sane view of gas prices yet.Sure we don't generate enough gas for ourselves. But we easily could. The REAL problem is the state and federal taxes that make fuel so high before we get to buy the stuff! Then we pay taxes at the pump!Want lower prices on fuel? Stop letting the politicians tax the hell out of it.That's why cigarettes are so costly and booze ect. not because it's a rising demand or because people drink and smoke more it's because the government has it's greedy little hands all over it!The are going after the lowest common denominator.Fuel prices effects EVERYTHING!
And thusly makes prices go up,with higher prices comes more revenue to the government. What does a good waiter do when you go out to eat?He tries to sell you the most expensive entree, a drink before after and during dinner, dinner wine and desert the higher the bill the better his tip!! The government is making us TIP them mandatorily!Open your eyes genuis!Question everything!

Thank you, my visceral response was simply to bring to light the fact that our government has a huge role is this gas thing.I remember the gas caps by Nixon and how they didn't work.Capitalism doesn't need to be thwarted by government and on the other end I think the govenment needs to profit at our expense either.
