What is Dean doing for May Day?

Europe has a long tradition of securing social services for their citizens. Along with equality for all come high taxation and serious stifling of individual entrepreneurship, and in turn the economy. Before I outline the European model, ask yourself if this is something you would want and if you see any political parallels within the Democratic Party.

European Social Democrats believe in equality for all, irregardless of you ability. In this system, depending on your nation of residence and your level of income, you may work until October each year before you earn money for yourself. The highest tax brackets in Europe come very close to 70% of earned income. This lays the groundwork for intellectual emigration. Conversely, you may have no skill or ambition, yet you are somehow entitled to the same things as the people who strive for greatness.

Beyond income, there are labor taxes. If you are the sole proprietor of your own business, it may be too expensive for you to hire one additional employee to take on extra work and grow your business. The labor taxes can make you loose money on the expansion, leaving you to conclude that expansion is bad business. Do you wonder why unemployment is at its highest level since pre WWII in Europe? What would a Democratic ticket do to employment in the US?

Sure they offer free healthcare, university education and subsidies for just about everything under the sun. Yet the healthcare lines are beyond a year for simple surgeries, education and Academia take a backseat to the US and Asia and social programs backing every radical view from existentialism to Islamic fanaticism receive government funding.
