NBC tsunami telethon [BARF ALERT]
NBC | January 15, 2005

Posted on 01/15/2005 5:21:21 PM PST by ejdrapes

Anyone see the beginning of the NBC tsunami telethon? They stared out with Madonna singing a trippy version of "Imagine". And I thought they wanted people to tune in and donate....that was a complete turn off to me. And no, I don't need Brad Pitt manning the phones to get me to donate either.

I didn't even know they were doing a telethon. I guess I'm really out of touch with popular culture.

Woo-hoo!

Everyone please call and donate .50cents . Thats it, call back every ten minutes and donate another .50 cents. Show them what a waste of time this is.

Really funny how these tools want us to donate more of our money. We already have donated so much. We have given to charities and had our tax money allocated to these people. All these fools are doing is grandstanding to show the asinine people who worship them how much they care. What a bunch of sanctimonious frauds.

Addendum: After 3 or 4 calls where you donate .50 cents each time, call back and ask all kinds of stupid questions, like, " Gee, mr clooney how much are you giving, may I have some ? or wow mr pitt. who will you be tapping next? ;^)

Madonna doing "Imagine" Is pretty tasteless. Not only did the original song suck but Madonna's version sucked plus it wants one to imagine what the world would be like with out religion.
Not that people shouldn't be allowed to say such things but its pretty rude to sing it at a telethon.

I chose to put in "Any Given Sunday" instead.

Just stumbled across this on TV. I am really disturbed by this.

Not that Hollywood (I use that term loosly - obviously there many of the performers are not based in Hollywood. But the people manning the phones and giving us these PSAs are) is reaching out to aid the victims and victim's families, that is noble and good...

Rather, that Hollywood (and the media establishment in general) en masse seem to be selective in their compassion.

I can't put my finger on what it is that truly upsets me about this event. I'm trying to put it into words... hypocrisy and vanity are two that immediately come to mind, but I remind myself that I am cynical (at best) when it comes to these Hollywood money-raising ventures.

It taxes my mind and the effort seems pointless.

Maybe I am wrong, and this is genuine goodness. I hope I am wrong.

You're not wrong, most of them are phonies. All of us little people have been sending donations for a couple of weeks. Now they think we need them to sing, dance, etc, to send more. I'm gonna go watch a DVD.

Nobody is watching the telethon anyway. There's an NFL playoff game on Fox.

Conceived and executed by Hollywood (pretty much, Looney Clooney, et al) -- if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, looks like a duck...well you know the rest.

Big question is : how much of the money raised will ever get to the TRUE NEEDY VICTIMS THAT NEED IT??? Based on the past record of the "charities" that Clooney has been associated with, don't hold out any great hopes. Ala 9/11 and its charity/money/victim scenario. Same folks, different day.

I just realized... one thing that really bothers me about this is that these are MULTI-millionaires asking Joe Public for money, selling COFFEE CUPS signed by the Almighty Celeb Elite for $2.5k.

Do you suppose if the roles were reversed, that Brad Pit would give up a month's pay for a coffee cup signed by my family?

Unfortunately, I'm sure their java mugs are selling faster than they can uncap a Sharpie.

Yup. I do not like these people. These are the same people who have bashed President Bush in every hateful way that they could think of, and now they are loving, caring people. Let them dip into their millions. We do fine on our own. We don't need their entertainment.

I wish someone would contact the organizers of this dog and pony show and ask them if the would like to participate in a telethon for the benefit of our injured Iraq War Vets. Don't hold your breath.

The only use I ever had for these looneys other than asking them to entertain me for a couple of hours on a screen somewhere was when I spent a night with well known actress. Ironically she is known as one of the loopiest ones.

That's hilarious! We could tie up the lines. They wouldn't bring in any money. Its all for show anyway.

We had to turn it off. Madonna was horrible. She butchered that song.
