"Just because I could"

When asked about the Monica Lewinski affair, former president Clinton said "I did something for the worst possible reason. Just because I could. I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing anything."

Clinton also said of the impeachment process: "The whole battle was a badge of honor. I don't see it as a stain, because it was illegitimate."

Clinton OathThere's a good explanation. I guess he sees being disbarred for perjury as a badge of honor also.

I would have liked to ask a few questions myself. Perhaps it would have gone something like this:

Q - Mr. President, why did you sell U.S. military secrets to the Chinese, giving them nuclear strike capability against us and threatening our national security?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you falsely accuse the good people in the Whitehouse travel office and engage in an active smear campaign against them?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you hinder the investigation of the death of Vincent Foster?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you assemble a database of your political enemies and illegally obtain more than 1000 enemy FBI files?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you use Arkansas State Troopers to recruit women for you while you were governor?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you engage in the unprecedented act of firing all 93 career U.S. Attorneys?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you dishonor the Whitehouse by selling overnight stays in the Lincoln bedroom?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you steal national treasures upon leaving the Whitehouse?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you abuse your power by using the IRS and the FBI against your political enemies?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you perjure yourself?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you engage in smear campaigns against Paul Jones, Monica Lewinsky and Gennifer Flowers, using your surrogates to call them things like "lying bimbos," "mentally unstable" and "trailer trash?"

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you violate the constitution by signing a retroactive tax increase into law?

A - "Just because I could."

Q - Why did you pardon so many criminals, including fugitive Marc Rich, just before leaving the Whitehouse?

A - "Just because I could."

Thank you for those enlightening answers Mr. President. There are many other questions I would like answered but we just don't have the time.

"Just because I could." = "Because I have the power."
