Some wit once defined a fanatic as a person who redoubles his effort just as he loses sight of his objective. That wit must have been thinking of U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft and Drug Enforcement Administrator Asa Hutchinson.

Their objective is supposed to be chasing drug traffickers who sell dangerous drugs such as methamphetamines and heroin to children. Instead, they are raiding plots that supply medical marijuana to grandmothers with cancer under the terms of California's Proposition 215.

So it’s marijuana vs methamphetamine LOL.

From what I’ve been told “Ritalin” is a medical form of meth and you see it being handed out in (by) schools. So now we have the meth vs pot wars of 2002.

Anyone tries to force me or my children to take meth, ritalin, pot, coffee, kool-aid, eggs, salt, whatever, I will fight them until one of us dead, that's a guarantee.

unfortunately, the school teachers are in charge of kids now and when they say you should put your kid on ritalin, well, you are supposed to conform. Lots of parents have been intimidated into it. It is very sad, but I agree with you.

No doubt. That is a fight worth waging.

you're exactly right, they spend resources on stamping out pot and it allows cocaine and meth to be less targeted. Right now the government is successfully stopping a lot of drugs from getting across the mexican border. The result is that the drug smugglers have only got a limited number of truckloads they can get north. What do you think they are saving those limited truckloads for? It is all cocaine. because cocaine is very valuable on per-volume basis as compared to marijuana, that's why. The marijuana is being squelched by the anti-drug efforts, but the cocaine is not squelched. That is what is happening right now.

Marijuana is not without harm. But it is much less harmful by far than cocaine or meth.

And they wonder why these kids are going wacko and shooting up the schools. Crying shame.

Yes and a 22 cal does less damage then a 45 cal but I don’t want my kid shot with either. Higher more border guards.

"Higher more border guards."

Maybe we could just hire a few. Or did you mean that in the same sense as "Up The Irish"?

News flash: marijuana is also known as "ditch weed," for its propensity to flourish in roadside ditches in the central United States.

Higher more border guards.

How many more border guards do you plan on getting high? And on what?

If you own two full fifths of booze, you have a lethal dose (with a good margin of certainty). How much pot would you have to smoke before there was even a question of potentially lethal effects?

If pot displaces other drugs, even booze, the net effect is likely to be LESS harm.

Yes it still grows wild in parts of the Midwest. It is not potent weed that can get people high. It is left over weed from when Hemp production for rope fiber was still legal. it can be found growing at the edges of corn and soybean fields.

This stuff was abundant around Chanute AFB, and as I recall several airmen tried to smoke the stuff. They coughed a lot and gave themselves headaches, that is all. It also grew wild on the base and could be seen sticking up when the lawns were not mowed.

I have heard it said that marijuana is a major cash crop in Kentucky from some LE's that live there. These are drug producers, not the same thing as wild hemp.

You have heard correctly. My dealer calls it "Kentucky Holler Weed", as in "grown up in the holler", much like the old moonshiner days. Not too different from your average sativa-indica hybrid, which is quite popular these days.

I figured out the answer to this and our illegal immigration problem years ago.

Every person joining the US military is required to recieve weapons training right? Fine. Put up big signs written in spanish saying, YOU ARE ENTERING A FREE FIRE ZONE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Put a sign up every 8th mile from texas to california facing south. It should then be a simple matter of flying the recruits down there for rifle practice.

Along with a precipitous drop in drugs reaching this country we can expect a similar drop in illegal immigration.

I'm confused. I thought the WOD was a failure.

This is the eternal war. Meth/ritalin (and oddly enough, alcohol and tobacco) are all drugs that activate the 2nd (emotional-territorial) circuit in our brain, where pot activates the 5th (neurosomatic) circuit.

We live in interesting times.

So now it comes from Canada instead, when it can, and is produced locally otherwise.

Can you think of one thing better for our economy than legalizing and encouraging production and sales of marijuana and hemp? I can't. There's the return of the American consumer, at least for Hostess.

Press reports claim that meth has ruined many college towns out West as more and more young students are hooked on the stuff and turn to crime to buy more. Montana has had a severe problem trying to cope with the effects of this drug, but the city authorities and cops are losing the battle.

For some Freepers, it appears that they believe meth, coke and marijuana are not a problem. The libertarians out there insist that no laws should be made or enforced to control drugs. I wonder what their opinion might be if their son or daughter turned up hooked on meth, hmmm?

Unless you have seen the result of such drugs on kid's minds, then you cannot appreciate how bad the effect can be. I visited a big mental health facility in California that had buildings full of young people who had permanently fried their brains with meth, coke and other damaging drugs. Most were there as veggies until they die, with no hope of cure. They were free to choose. They did and are now wards of the State. What a waste!
