Using antidepressants during pregnancy or while breastfeeding can damage a baby’s brain and increase their risk of suffering mental health problems in the future, a study found.
Prozac, also known as fluoxetine, increases levels of mood-boosting serotonin in the brain - but scientists discovered this can affect a child’s developing prefrontal cortex.
They also found the drug can pass into the breast milk of new mothers who take it and end up being fed to newborns.
Research suggest that between 300,000 and 400,000 kids are being exposed to Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) drugs each year in the US during pregnancy.
Professor Won Chan Oh, of the University of Colorado, said: ‘We are the first to provide experimental evidence of the direct impact of serotonin on the developing prefrontal cortex when fluoxetine is taken during pregnancy.
The new study, published in Nature Communications, looked at the impact of deficiency and surplus of serotonin on brain development in mice.
The researchers now plan to examine the impact of Prozac on a developing teenage brain.
Prozac is one of the world’s most prescribed antidepressants. It is available on the NHS and is often used because it has fewer side effects than other drugs.
Antidepressants are on the rise in the UK, with 86million prescribed in 2022/23 to an estimated 8.6million patients - 200,000 more than the year before.

Geez once upon a time, even taking Tylenol was hardly done. Coffee, nope, any meds were frowned upon. At the risk of sounding terrible, but, if a woman is unable to get off of ssri’s during her pregnancy, perhaps she should wait to have children until she’d more emotionally stable.

The only effective depression medication is sunshine- Vitamin D. It works. I have watched it transform the personalities of a number of people.
As a result of surveys back in the 50s that showed the complete failure of psychoanalysis and various psychotherapies the therapeutic profession, led by Timothy Leary began to propagandize the public about the “benefits” of drugs. Several pseudoscientific theories, like brain chemical imbalance, were foisted on the public.
The first campaign was the treatment of “anxiety”. A handy diagnosis since everyone has anxiety from time to time. Along with drugs came an avalanche of previously rare phenomenal like family destruction, mass shootings, mothers placing their babies in ovens, etc.
After the patents on the antianxiety meds (benzos) ran out. The drug companies came out with SSRIs and depression became the new watchword of the drug pushers. With SSRIs suicide and mass shooting rates increased. Also at this time ADHD was invented and the victims of this “diagnosis” were given speed. After addiction to speed set in you started seeing child suicide. Just a coincidence I’m sure.
After the patents on Prozac and other SSRIs ran out magically depression almost disappeared and bipolar became the new fad for pill pushing “doctor’s.”
When the patents on bipolar meds run out a new fake diagnosis will appear with new patented drugs. Mass shootings and insanity statistics with stay at current levels or increase.
Mental Health professionals murder for money. Just like the MIC. They’ve just made themselves legit but are much like the drug cartels as they promote violence-increasing drugs.
I swear I heard something like 70% of all adult women in America are now on these drugs
I have wondered about that in a shtf situation.
Things will be bad enough without 70% of the female population going through ssri withdrawl.
