If Trump’s Rage Brings ‘Civil War,’ Where Will the Military Stand?
The Daily Beast ^ | October 6, 2019 | Patricia Ravalgi

The moment may come when soldiers have to choose between the Constitution and Donald Trump. No doubt most will embrace the Constitution. But some will see that as a tough call.

Earlier this week Donald Trump, commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces, tweeted that his impeachment “will cause a Civil War” from which the country might never recover. Picking up on remarks made by an evangelical pastor on Fox News, Trump did not just say his removal would lead to a huge electoral defeat for the Democrats, or even mass demonstrations. He said “civil war”. Americans taking up arms against other Americans in his name.

“Civil War 2” started trending on Twitter. So, for a time, did #CivilWarSignup.

In the modern era, real civil wars have been the great affliction of Third World countries—conflicts that split nations and societies along political, ethnic or religious fault lines. They are very often accompanied by martial law and resolved by military intervention. Is this what the president has in mind? Where would the U.S. military stand in such a situation? A view from the inside indicates the armed forces are as divided as the rest of the country—and divided is a dangerous place for the U.S. military to find itself.

After spending 19 years in Washington with intelligence jobs in Congress, at the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (focusing on counterterrorism and counterintelligence), I had the opportunity to join the commander’s Red Team at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida.

Within a few years, however, CENTCOM’s senior leadership told us Red Team’s “alternative analysis” was “confusing” the commander. (Truth was, they really didn’t want any competing analysis contradicting what the traditional intelligence analysts were selling.)

Even if it were illegal they could easily change the law. But I think it’s to our advantage to emphasize that it’s illegal. The military would most likely line up against the people. Their job is to take orders. If the military stays out of it though I think the civilians who have the guns will prevail. And that’s us.

The Obama administration bought millions of rounds of ammunition for just about every agency in the US government. The Obama administration ran guns to Mexico and probably to just about every government agency too.

When the Civil War comes, it will be the defenders of the Constitution—and I hope that include the US armed forces and most of the American people—against those who are against the Constitution—who will likely come from the agencies that the Obama administration armed.

When the Civil War starts, it will be started by the anti-Constitutionalists and communists. It will be finished as Uncle Joe (Stalin not Biden) said: “Justice comes from the barrel of a gun,” It is my hope that when left starts the Civil Ward, that the Obama administration failed to train the deep state in the proper usage of the weapon and that American patriots allow the communists to fight to the death—the deaths of all the communists.

“...Trumpz’s rage..”

As if the current mess is his fault. I have rage too for the same reason.

“The military will follow the orders of whoever has the authority to give the orders”

Uh no I don’t think so. Ostumbles wanted to send troops to the Bundy ranch and the generals just looked at him and said “no”. Because they didn’t want to have to fight the entire US militia in a civil war.

The military has war gamed itself against the civilian population a few times and they always lose.

Since Trump has never done anything criminal or unconstitutional the military would rightly side with him.

All President's or at least their advisers are very familiar with the ‘Lincoln Playbook’ for dealing with whatever a chief executive wants to call an insurrection. The resources at the President's control are light years beyond what Abe had at his command in 1861. Without a tiresome enumeration just think what the NSA and the Dept of the Treasury can do without firing a shot.

It may also focus on the Washington D.C. area as it is the seat of power for the commie bureaucracy and something like 95% of it’s citizens voted for Hillary. Seems like a possibility. The blue cities are quite vulnerable.

This CW is already in progress, it will be fought online not by people taking their AR-15s out and shooting democrats.

Seriously? Who cares? If Civil War happens it would require the entire ground combat assets of the military (no REMF's like dear Patricia here) just to occupy California. The military will sit this one out. They'll preserve order around large military bases but that's about it.

RE: “Following the Constitution” —I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

Military units vary greatly. The single most important variable is the quality of the leadership. Therefore, the units will most likely do what their commanders tell them. If that is “Constitutional” great! But what if it isn’t?

I don’t think you’ll see units mutiny against their officers. If that were to seem likely I don’t think the units would leave barracks. Though I’d be interested in other opinions.

I’ll second that. Stupid article and premise. The military as a whole does not have mindless devotion to any general or senior officer as such. Being ordered by some general to go against the Constitution or the CinC would not work. As in the Civil War, some would go with the faction of never-trumpers and democrats but only a few. When Trump came in, he should have sacked most if not all of the JCS and their immediate staff. They are, most all, political hacks bought and paid for by way of who moved them up to their rank and position. This is the legacy of the Kenyan, Clinton, and Carter as well as the Bushes.

Here’s a very unpleasant - but possible - scenario. We know the House Democrats hate Trump. So they decide to impeach Trump over some minor thing. That would be quite legal, as the Constitution gives the House the sole power to decide just what an impeachable offense is.

Then the Senate surprisingly convicts Trump. Too many GOP senators fold to Deep State pressure.

In this scenario, both the House and the Senate acted in a disgusting, yet legal and constitutional manner. What would the military do in that case? Would it be best for the country if they do nothing?

This is exactly the scenario that I fear most since the News media's job in all this is to stampede GOP senators toward the exits. It's happened before on various legislative issues so there is precedent for it. If this should come to pass, then I think you'd be lookinng at significant resignations from the officer corps in protest. But as the News media will be sympathetic to the coup, they won't report much of it. But they will report a significant rise in dismissals for "loss of command confidence" -- which will amout to the biggest purge of the officer corps since the Obama administration.

Why would white liberal 'elites' (and their pets) want to fight with us when they CAN HAVE IT ALL?

Because it isn't about the specifics that the Left are pushing. In the final analysis it is about weilding raw power over the rest of us.

3 years in to the Trump administration, most of those 3 & 4 star flag officers are nearing the end of their tour. If they haven’t already been appointed to a new billet, or been promoted, they will have retired (or soon will).

The thing I worry about — looking at the bad hires made Trump (a lot of them haven’t panned out) — is how many SJW officers might have been promoted to replace those retired?

This is a nonsensical premise spread by the left.

You are absolutely right. The left is vile and disgusting. Their goal is to murder America by 1000 cuts. Only fidiots will believe this BS written.

Let's get real. What the left should be worried about is what can happen to them if this coup continues. I am not sure the Founders ever envisioned this let alone the Constitution being abused as a political tool to destroy itself. In my opinion the President has barely used his proper Constitutional power to crush this rebellion and coup. It's funny that the Democrats wanted civil war for slavery (among other things) and wants another civil war for Clinton and the slavery of Socialism/Globalism.

Don't trust the military leadership. A vast majority of the officers are leftest, and would gladly exterminate the folks "like us" that you refer to. All the field grade and general officers were moved up by and during the Obama administration.

FRiend, have you ever heard of 'fragging'? Soldiers who love their country and KNOW which officers are useless will know what to do. Look for a lot of that to happen should the situation occur. I am not concerned.

So far, I see a huge gap between today’s globalist democrats and the Constitution. I have seen no gap at all between our duly-elected President of the Untied States and the Constitution that I swore an oath to defend. As all decent Americans recall, that Oath had no expiration date.

Amusing, really - the Deep State author (check out her CV) slants the thing so far it ceases to have any meaning. What she is really concerned about is whether the military will follow the orders of coup leaders if they can disguise the thing with a veneer of legality.

Considering how the military was treated under Obama’s 8 years, with the total support of the Dems, I say they will back Trump very strongly.

When the shooting starts, laws will dissolve.

When the shooting stops, NEW LAWS will be made & enforced, by PATRIOTS.
