Over a hundred people marched through downtown Newark, N.J., on June 24 demanding reparations for the African Holocaust. Called by the People’s Organization for Progress, the demonstration was greeted by people at bus stops with clenched fists.
Speaking at a rally, Larry Hamm, chairperson of POP, quoted Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois in saying that at least 150 million people were stolen from Africa during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. World capitalism was built upon this colossal crime, along with the genocide committed against Indigenous peoples throughout the Americas.
Hamm noted that New Jersey’s history was intertwined with slavery. The state legislature initially refused to pass the 13th Amendment banning slavery.
Among the huge companies that have benefited from racism is Prudential Insurance, whose headquarters the demonstrators marched past. Prudential sold “Jim Crow” policies at higher rates to African Americans for decades.
At the beginning of the rally, support was raised for H.R. 40, a bill calling for reparations in the House of Representatives initiated by Rep. John Conyers, dean of the Black Congressional Caucus. Rep. Donald Payne, Jr., who was in attendance, said he was going to add his name as a co-sponsor.
Omowale Clay of the December 12th Movement led the crowd in chanting, “They stole us! They sold us! They owe us!” a powerful slogan which D12 originated. Glen Ford of the Black Agenda Report pointed out that 150 years ago the biggest U.S. capitalist investments were in enslaved Africans.
Dr. James McIntosh spoke from N’COBRA, the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America, which has been in the vanguard on this issue for 30 years. Other organizations that participated included the Nation of Islam, the Black Lives Matter movement and BAYAN.

If history serves me right, they are directing their anger at the wrong people group. Muslims stole Africans and sold them as slaves. They are barking up the wrong tree.
There aren’t any slaves or slave owners alive today. Back off; let go of it already.
I think they should try and collect from the Spanish, Great Britain and all the Saharan and some Sub-Saharan countries first.
They are dead, all dead. The ones who were your owners and the ones who dies to free you and all the ones who were slaves.
Right now this country has supported several generations who have not carried their own weight. That was no favor & must stop. For your sake and ours put down the chip on your shoulders and get to work finding your talents and making use of them to create and improve the world around you instead of expecting someone outside yourselves to make life better for you.

I don’t remember my history too specifically but 150 million is way, way off. It is more like 10 million. Heck, there was only about 5 million in 1800, 35 million during the Civil War, and we didn’t break 100 million nationally until nearly 1920.
Why don’t they set up a “Go Fund Me” page or whatever it’s called.
Yeah, yeah, and the Russians owe me for stealing my family land 100 years ago. That was more recent. I definitely can prove my lineage. 50 bucks sez that at least a quarter of the people in that photo aren’t even certain who their father was, never mind how their family got here. It might be tough to prove any claim...

Over 700,000 white boys slaughtered each other do decide your fate. Tens of thousands paid their reparations in eyes, arms, and legs lost.
Reparations have already been paid in blood.

They do not do real work so this is the best they can come up with.

New Jersey banned slavery in 1804 officially, but retained “apprenticeships” in their place in some cases. And as for the Thirteenth Amendment, it was not necessary for New Jersey to ratify it to become federal law, although the state did ratify it a month after it became law.
Hundreds of thousands of white men died during the civil war fighting, in part, to end slavery. The slate is wiped clean.

We’re already paying massive reparations through taxpayer-funded welfare, Obamaphones, housing, prisons, etc. These clowns owe us money.
