Germany’s hippest young comedian faces a jail sentence of up to five years if Turkey decides to press charges over a poem he wrote insulting its head of state.

Jan Böhmermann knew what he was doing when he read out a self-penned poem insulting Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan live on his late night show on Thursday evening.

He introduced the piece by speaking directly to the Turkish president.

“What I’m about to read is not allowed. If it were to be read in public — that would be forbidden in Germany,” Böhmermann said, before proceeding to perform his “smear poem” which, among many insults, called Erdoğan a “goat ****er” who “watches child porn while kicking Kurds.” …

While I disagree with his choice of language, I do agree with his disdain for the pig erdogan, and I heartily support his freedom to say whatever he pleases. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to listen.

Does this make erdogan a little snowflake, now?

But what if he could prove that Erdoğan is a “goat ****er” who “watches child porn while kicking Kurds.” … Then would it be slander?

Jeez, if a Trump supporter said the same thing about Ted Cruz, it would be up to Cruz to PROVE IT’S NOT TRUE.

Erdogan is more thinskinned than both Obama AND even Donald Trump. He is an Assad-wannabe, but w/o the power of Russian alliance. Erdogan is a believer in Sharia and radical islam, and it was a sad mistake of the Turkish voters to prop him up. Sort of like when the Palestinians bestowed Hamas with all kinds of electoral power. Vote in haste, repent in leisure.

Maybe not slander, but they can define “insult” any way they please.

I doubt this is about slander, because that’s not a criminal offense. People don’t get locked up for slander.

This is about him violating political correctness.

Proof of that was his decision to say going to a maddrassah is qualification for college and rolling back secularization by allowing or even requiring head scarves.

And JFTR, the Grundgesetz limits freedom of speech while claiming that it exists in the first place and that censorship will not exist. Article 5:
  1. Every person shall have the right freely to express and disseminate his opinions in speech, writing and pictures, and to inform himself without hindrance from generally accessible sources. Freedom of the press and freedom of reporting by means of broadcasts and films shall be guaranteed. There shall be no censorship.

  2. These rights shall find their limits in the provisions of general laws, in provisions for the protection of young persons, and in the right to personal honor.

  3. Arts and sciences, research and teaching shall be free. The freedom of teaching shall not release any person from allegiance to the constitution.
The “right to personal honor” clause can be a tricky one.

From the article:

“It appears that Böhmermann was trying to explain the difference between satire and slander to the Turkish head of state - with his poem very much being an instance of the latter.”

I’m no the one who decided to call this “slander”.

But no, obviously, this does not meet a normal American definition of slander. It’s just a case of peasants saying things the ruling elite doesn’t want them too. The term “political correctness” was originally coined by Stalin and anyone who tries to enforce it is no better than Stalin.

But still, I am interested to know, what sort of things Erdogan may or may not be doing while he is kicking kurds.

You said: “I do agree with his disdain for the pig erdogan”

My take:

Er_DOG_an

Yes he is an arrogant POS and an evil ISIS butcher supporter.

Thin skinned Dictator.

And Turkey once was an ally.

If he’d just stuck to the facts, the results would be the same.

I heard on the radio earlier today that “more than 20 charges” were filed against that guy. Now, when charges are made, the state attorneys are obligated by law to investigate, no matter what the outcome may be. Inconvenient “Rule of Law” and all that...

What was not reported, of course, was any information on the complainants.

100% Turks on behalf of Erdohitler, no doubt. Lawfare, chipping at the foundations of the West, bit by bit...
