It’s easy to understand why journalism is in the sewer, while colleges hire Swindell as a professor. It’s no wonder we don’t have a free press.

Oh, that’s just the trouble - we have a free press - we just don’t have free and independent presses.

“Liberals” love the Adam Smith quote about monopoly:

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies; much less to render them necessary. - Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations (Book I, Ch 10)

But when you consider the fact that

• the Associated Press is nothing but a virtual meeting of all the major actors in American journalism, and

• it has now been running continually for over a century and a half,

you realize that it would be a wonder if the AP were anything else but “a conspiracy against the public” by now.

That conspiracy is called “liberalism."
