Gun lobby’s fanaticism prevails over common sense (Cover that keyboard and monitor)
The Albany Herald ^ | April 19, 2013 | Cynthia Tucker

Posted on 04/20/2013 12:51:58 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

You might have thought that the mangled bodies of 20 dead children would have been enough to overcome the crazed obsessions of the gun lobby.

You might have believed that the courage and exhortations of a former congresswoman — her career cut short and her life forever changed by a would-be assassin’s bullet — would have pushed Congress to do the right thing.

You might have reasoned that polls showing overwhelming public support for a sensible gun control measure would have persuaded politicians to take a modest step toward preventing more massacres.

You would have been wrong. The U.S. Senate sent a stark message to the citizens it is elected to represent: We couldn’t care less about what you want.

Fifteen years of highly publicized mass murders carried out by madmen with firearms — Columbine, Virginia Tech, Tucson and Aurora, to name just a few — have changed nothing. Newtown, where 26 people, including 20 young children, were mowed down by a man armed with an assault-type weapon and high-capacity magazines for his ammo, provoked little more than a ripple in the corridors of Washington, where the National Rifle Association and its like-minded lobbies carried the day.

The grip that the gun lobby maintains on Congress is hard to explain. The National Rifle Association has persuaded spineless politicians that it is an omnipotent election god, able to strike down those who don’t cower before it. That’s simply not true, but even if it were, aren’t some principles worth losing elections over?(continued)

Oh, but it is, Cynthia. Not the NRA itself, but the American people as a whole, who don't want further restrictions, no matter what your skewed polls say.

A “progressive” liberal with common sense? No such animal exists. You’ve got a better chance finding a Bigfoot than you do a liberal with common sense.

During the 60’s, leftist “Cynthias” were accusing our soldiers of being baby killers and calling our police ‘filthy pigs.’ Now we’re to see it as “common sense” that Americans should be disarmed and weapons collectivized in the hands of cops?!?

Cynthia and her leftist cohort are very seriously unbalanced. Rather than a public ‘dialogue’ about conservatives and guns it ought to revolve around the questions such as: What is wrong with leftists? Why is it that every time they open their mouths they advertise their moral imbecility?

Cynthia forgot that it was George Wallace who taught all the politicians in America to NOT hold political rallies in large open parking lots ~ sure, they can see you and you can see them and it's all warm and fuzzy, but there are these mad dog killers who don't care ~ they can use the audience to get close and BANG!!!

For what it's worth Gabby seems to have been totally unaware of the existence of George Wallace, and what happened to him ~ and she actually held an open air parking lot event the same year Arthur Bremmer was turned loose!

We need a mandatory course for everyone running for public office. It would be titled "Stayin' Alive On The Campaign" ~ they'd cover types of talk show personalities to not talk to, where to hold meetings, what to do with other people's cellphones and cameras, armed guards, unarmed guards, ...... all the hazards that can take down a campaign or a candidate in a second!

I believe the Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives has such a program for new and current Representatives ~ apparently Gabby didn't think it was worthwhile. Now she knows although it might be difficult to tell that! She sure can't explain it.

I have known gerbils with better critical thinking skills than Cynthia! A textbook example of someone who is where she because of her race and affirmative action/preferential hiring, not because of her talent.

Cindy, Cindy, Cindy. Well I see you got your degree in journalism from Auburn. So, I’m sure you learned a lot about the first Amendment to the Constitution and the reason for it. But, I don’t suppose you took a history course and learned about the rest of the Constitution and the Second Amendment and the reason for it.
But I can understand that you, as a true political liberal, only like to refer to those statistics that fit your agenda. You know Cindy, right after the Second Amendment is trashed, the First Amendment is soon to follow. And then the only journalist left are the ones working for the State Regime. But don’t worry, I see where you were named “Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalist. That should get you a top job in Obama’s National Press Corp. Oh, Cindy, you might wanna check that 90% stat you threw in there. That little mistake could cost you in the competition in this year’s ballot for Journalist of the Year by the National Association of White Journalists. Oh wait, that “White” was a typo.

Obvious Obama Supporter. Doesn’t matter how destructive his policies, regulations are or ihis Infringements on the Constitution she stands behind him all the way for one reason. They’re the same color. I’d say that’s a form of racism too.

It would simply have expanded criminal background checks to include guns sold at gun shows and via the Internet, a step supported by 90 percent of Americans, according to polls.

W R O N G.

The very wording is a contradiction.

"Universal background checks" are NOT background checks.

What the neo-communists want with "Universal background checks" is a cross-linked database that includes medical records, prescription drug records, Military service records, credit scores, grade school and college records, school "resource officers" records, civil judgments, employee drug testing, etc, etc.

Essentially, any scrap of data that can be tied to you. At that point the benevolent shepherds in our "most transparent" administration will set the sell / no sell bar as they see fit.

That is not "do you have a felony conviction" check.

Current law already does that.

And the 90% figure?

They are referring to the Quinnipiac University poll from Feb, 2013.

It is a twisting of what was actually asked.

Yeah, I know, SHOCKING, right?

February 7, 2013 - Americans Back Women In Combat 3-1, But Less For Draft, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Support For Universal Gun Background Checks Is 92%

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/institutes-centers/polling- institute/nat ional/release-detail/?ReleaseID=1847

Demographics...

The questions...

What is glaringly obvious by its absence is the exact description of what comprises a universal background check because it never did ask that question.

It also does not differentiate between a private sale and a FFL sale when referring to "gun buyers."

Here is the actual question...

38. Do you support or oppose requiring background checks for all gun buyers?

So of course the question is vague in that it only says "background checks."

NOT universal background checks.

But when it comes out of the neo-communists' mouth it has transformed into...

SUPPORT FOR UNIVERSAL GUN BACKGROUND CHECKS IS 92%

Umm, no, that is NOT the question that was asked.

Quinnipiac University Polling Institute... little bammy, assorted neo-communists, you lie.

.

One more thing...

Think of the death count if the bombs in Boston had been placed at waist level.

Right now I am thinking of one boy blown apart and his sister with a lost leg, and many others with limbs blown off.
