My wife is the same way. I must say, I don't understand it too much.

However, as strong as the instinct to live is, there are circumstances where the mind overrides it.

Of course, she's never been in a situation to choose, so who really knows until that happens.

Maybe an appeal to maternal instincts - my wife carries and would put down anyone who threatened us, our kids, or our friends and not blink until it was over.

I had a GF once who was like that until someone went after a family member with a machete.

After that incident she was not afraid anymore. One time at a light in the city a windshield washer approached the car and she did not see him but I did. He reached over to wash the windshield and she went for my 380 in the glove box.

I was watching the whole scenario unfold so I was able to avert disaster for us all.
