Tennessee Nana, it's like the old Bugs Bunny cartoon with Yosemite Sam on the diving board. Bugs inches closer and closer to the end of the board, each time saying "I DARE ya to cross this line!" Like an idiot, Sam crosses and crosses and crosses, until he goes off the edge.
Every four years, the GOP-e inches conservatives closer and closer to the left, daring us to vote for someone else, or give up just "a little bit more" of our principles and vote for their pick.
