If they persist in calling people racists when they are not, people may well become racists.

Well, it is like the saying, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." I know our side tries to reach out with our hands and try to become friends. It is the right thing to do in order to get along even though we might not agree on a few things. Trouble is that the disagreements are huge right now, many cases 180 degrees out of phase and you have the race hustlers who push this and the sheeple they preach to buy it. So like Charlie Brown kicking the football with Lucy where he gets fooled and beat up all the time, we do the right thing to reach out and in so doing, 99% of the time, we get a bloody stump in return. Sadly, somewhere, sometime, our side will get sick of it and some will turn into racist by default and/or if the "balloon goes up" will be forced to make a hard and terrible choice in order to survive.
Sadly, this has been simmering for a while but I think the heat would have gone down slowly, that is, until Obama was elected and the wounds reopened with fury. My boss put it this way, in many cases, race relations have been tossed back to 1970 if not further.
