Perhaps the most notable thing about the Sovereignty or Secession rally at the state Capitol on Monday was the absence of any remotely mainstream speakers. That little problem in presentation did not escape the events organizers from the Texas Nationalist Movement. In fact, several speakers bitterly complained that neither Gov. Rick Perry nor a single one of the 70-plus supporters of Rep. Brandon Creightons HCR 50, a resolution asserting Texas sovereignty from the federal government, made an appearance.
Back in April, Perry flirted with the idea of secession when he told reporters after a Tax Day tea party event: Theres absolutely no reason to dissolve [the Union]. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that.
Even for a governor who frequently plays to the more extreme elements in the Texas GOP, it was a gobsmackingly out there remark. But it certainly did wonders for the secession crowd -- long a totally marginal and ridiculed group with about as much chance of capturing the mainstream imagination as the LaRouche cult.
The turnout for the rally wasnt huge -- 200 would be a generous estimate -- but it was enough to show how much Perry has helped galvanize and embolden the right wing hate America fringe. After all, the governor of the second most populous state in the nation had suggested that secession was a possible solution to federal over-reach. Republican political leaders have helped bring death panels and the Obama birth certificate nonsense into acceptable discourse; Perrys contribution has been bringing secession into the mix.
I blame Perry.
Oh, great. Forget ACORN. This crap will make headlines.
Did they happen to report on 2 million marching in Washington?
Okay, I don’t see anywhere in the article where anyone said they hate America. Is there a larger article somewhere, or did an idiot make up the headline.
Forrest Wilder? Geez...his parents must have been bonified tree huggers, LOL!
How can THAT be?
Obama is the “great uniter”?
Right?
Why, isn’t Obama the “messiah”?
We should have heaven on earth ynder his reign.
I wasn’t there, but I understood the “hate America” quotation was the writer’s term, not the crowds. I don’t believe that the secessionist hate America. If anything, they feel pity for the United States. The United States that was formed by the Founding Fathers no longer exists. What we have in Washington is a coalition of the corrupt, the evil, and the stupid. Maybe if there was some way of resurrecting the United States, people wouldn’t want to secede.
Look, I’m born & raised in TX and I can tell you that a majority of conservative Texans (most of Texans) believe the Union should be preserved because we have fought too long and hard for it. We would also advocate civil war before succession.
However, we also believe that if the Union can’t be salvaged or the civil war won (or rather nobody else in this country will stand with us and pursue or support either course of action) then we fully advocate succession. We believe we can close our southern border, defend TX, and allow the TX economy to prosper.
Basically, we want to save the ship, but if everyone else is too cowardly to help us or too intent on sinking the ship, then we have no intention of going down with the ship.
Bingo ! If those nasty right wingers don't say what you want, then just make it up yourself !
The Alinsky technique of accusing your opponents of exactly what you are guilty of is getting rather old.
Texas isn't leaving America, America left Texas.
God bless Texas, and damn her enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Ah, so it was a comment made by one Phelps-like individual, to murmurs of disapproval. So in other words, the individual who selected the headline chose to quote the one person who could make the whole group look bad. (I noticed they also called the individual a Christian activist. Just had to make that comment even though the execution of homosexuals is an Islamic thing, not a Christian thing.)
Uh, where is the hate, except in the retard author’s headline?
2 minute hate.
