So many republicans are so convinced that if their values aren't represented, they are going to stay home or vote 3rd party. If people are going to be "1 issue" voters, for crying out loud, let that issue be "THE WAR AGAINST TERRORISM IN AMERICA". I believe that my values are not changeable - I believe in Pro-Life, the 2nd amendment, against embryonic stem cell research (but for adult cells like ambilical cord research), etc. I also believe that we have put the gov't in charge of these values and they need to be local and people oriented. We talk about reduced government control and yet complain about a candidate that won't do this or that about a gov't controlled agenda to wipe out something we're against. Let's stick to the basics and get together on someone who will lead us against terrorism, crime and taxes on the US citizens.

Look, FReepers aren't going to elect the next president... the American public will. However, the American public will get the candidate the political powers nominate. Therefore, we should choose a candidate that the American public can get behind.

The problem with Rudy is that the American public that blindly votes (D), won't go for him just because he agrees with them on some social issues. The candidates who typically vote (R) vote their conscience. You're not going to badger them into voting for the candidate with the (R) just because of that letter and we can complain about them all we want to no avail. Republican voters are issues-oriented, not party-centric like the Dems.

Reality is we have to have a product (candidate) distinguishable enough from the alternative to excite the consumer (voters). And we need to impress the "leadership" of the GOP that we want conservative values--or we won't get them.

So many republicans are so convinced that if their values aren't represented, they are going to stay home or vote 3rd party.

Maybe it's because of the Republican politicians.

When a Dem politicos go around their base, they give something to each group to keep them pleased. Teddy the Swimmer will talk nice and promise things to single issue groups on gays, open borders, dead babies, high taxes, socialized medicine, union workers, de-militarization and pot smoking. If he offends any one of these, it's a big deal.

When one of the elite [i.e. liked by the MSM] Republican candidates comes out, they say "I'm for crime control, screw all the rest of you single issue idiots", or "I'm for fiscal control, screw the rest of you single issue idiots". The problem isn't single issue voters, it's Republican politicians who are mostly liberal, except for one stand on one conservative issue. If he pleases more than one conservative group, it's a big deal in the MSM and he's labelled 'extreme'.

I expect many conservatives like me aren't single issue, but it might look like that. I can't vote for Rudy as he is a gun grabber. I won't vote for Romney as you can't trust any Mass politician, and his conversion to conservatism is recent and suspect. McCain gutted the first admendment.

There's little good these guys would promise to do that would outweigh the bad they are likely to do based on what they have done in the past.

I am a pro-lifer, but I still firmly believe that the WOT is the most important issue facing this nation. I was born in New York City and I now live and work in New York City, and knew several people in the Towers on September 11, 2001. I know people who went to more than a dozen funerals. If it hadn't been for the tech bubble bursting in late 2000/early 2001, I'd have been there too and I wouldn't be around to post this.

We cannot allow Shrillary, Obama or Edwards be President. To be perfectly honest, I cannot understand how people who call themselves patriots would go the 3rd party route (or the stay-at-home route) and let Bin Ladin's preferred party win by default.

The primary function of the Federal government is to protect the people. How better to protect them than to contine to wage the WOT?
