The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

Yes, I take issue with a quote from 1989.

Well, quite frankly that's your problem.

So you come back and talk about somebody else that posted from the 80's???

I don't know what you're talking about so I'll skip this.

I have said who knows how many times that Rudy is NOT a social conservative. Perhaps you've seen some of those posts? Tell me why you feel the need to point out that Rudy is NOT a social conservative?

Yes, I've seen your posts ad nauseum, but here's how it works.

I posted to someone else, you responded to my post to someone else and attacked it, I responded to you and on and on and here we are.

Maybe it would work better if you stop telling me what I already know, that Rudy's not a social conservative, and tell the other Rudy supporters because they keep saying otherwise.

But Ed, ED, ED, as nice a guy that you are, we simply cannot win with a Culture Warrior candidate. Both party's must cater to the middle if they hope to win.

The Democrats knew this before '06. The Reason Santorum, Allen, Blackwell, Steele, De Voss, and many more strong Conservatives lost is because they are too divisive in their ideology for the current attitude of the American voter. It's a fact that we have to identify and learn to adapt to. We can no longer do it with the old Principled Conservative approach. It just won't work anymore.

Good grief! I just reviewed several pages of your posts. You got anything that's not straight out of the Democrat/gay agenda playbook? If Rudy drags us down to this level, it'll be a sad day for conservatism. A sad day for America.

Just a reminder. Free Republic is a conservative site. As a conservative site, we are pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-liberty, pro-constitution and pro-America. We oppose liberalism, socialism, marxism, militant feminism, whacko envirionmentalism, homosexualism, abortionism, etc, etc, etc.

Just click "My Comments" on your Freep page and it will show the comment you made about our "white robes" being in the laundry.

But I'm sure you remember slandering us in that way...

Maybe - you would be wise to support someone rather than try to tear down Rudy?

I see a problem from the fringe folks trying to dishonestly, dishonorably define Rudy - when he has not even declared he is running - let alone stated his positions!

Doesn't that bother you at all - like the incessant spams?

Or do you excuse whatever your side does - since you agree with them?

You didn't say - do you claim to be Chrsitian?

Actually, being accused of being a member of the KKK is the worst insult I've ever seen here against us.

I'm surprised the mods didn't pull it.

Actually I am surprised they haven't pulled a lot of comments and let them stand but KKK sure hits at the top of my list as well! I don't see why you cannot debate a subject without getting nasty. Spirited debate yes but nasty? Not smart.

Well good grief right back at you. FR has been dragged down to this level for as long as I've been here.

There is a reason that the dems took back the Congress and sheltering the fringe voters from dealing with the reality of diversity of opinion is not going to help things.

Btw, I am pro liberty, pro constitution, pro individual freedom, pro God, pro gun, pro free speech and pro live and let live.

I am opposed to socialism, marxism and fascism (whether from the left or right), extremism and fanaticism.

Looking at all the latest research, we have a need to get this government back again by '08. The principals matter most when we reelect conservative legislators. We are pretty much in a bad light since we have lost the support of independents/moderates.

The Media hasn't helped much either. But what are we to do if we chose a candidate that can't carry the centrist dominated electorate. It will be Barry Goldwater all over again.

Maybe - you would be wise to support someone rather than try to tear down Rudy?

At this juncture there are many candidates I could support and will support. I don't like Rudy because he does not advance conservatism, he sets it back an incalculable amount.

I see a problem from the fringe folks trying to dishonestly, dishonorably define Rudy - when he has not even declared he is running - let alone stated his positions!

The fringe on this forum is you. I have not made a single dishonest or distorted post regarding Guiliani. If he doesn't run I'll be happy, but he's stated his positions on most issues innumerable times. Does he get to take new positions when he declares?

Doesn't that bother you at all - like the incessant spams?

The truth doesn't bother me in the slightest. By spams do you mean the incessant postings of the same question like you do?

Or do you excuse whatever your side does - since you agree with them?

I could live without certain things, but my side has done nothing that hasn't been done ad infinitum by yours.

You didn't say - do you claim to be Chrsitian?

I've never "claimed to be anything and I don't know why you care, but I'm Catholic.
